Alright, this is my official top 10 list for movies of 2025. Once again, if there is a certain movie you did not see on here that you think should’ve been mentioned, check out the post for part 1 or the “Movies You Won’t See 2025” post through the links below this list. And like I said yesterday, this is MY list. If you don’t like it, make your own.
#10- KPop Demon Hunters (Original Review)
Sony has been kicking serious butt throughout the 2020s. It’s like ever since Spider-Verse came, they’ve actually been trying with their movies. In 2021, The Mitchells Vs. The Machines came out, ATSV was finally released in 2023, and last year came the surprise hit that was KPop Demon Hunters. The animation and of course the music are the biggest strong points of the movie. But I also love that it (accidentally) got a little spiritual. I still do not believe this was intentional, but I still appreciate it. There is absolutely no way I’m going to bring up this movie without mentioning the impact it has had in music this year. The soundtrack was everywhere (Golden especially) and it’s very well deserved. KPop is probably the most iconic movie from last year (either that or Sinners) and my second favorite animated movie of 2025.
#9- F1 (Original Review)
This movie has AWESOME written all over it. It may not be the most complex movie, but it really does not need to be. And there is still complexity in it, mainly through the close (and at times brutal) look at the environment of the teams and the dynamic between Sonny and Josh (who’s still a jerk). I Could Not Breathe during those races, my heart was pounding during each and everyone of them. And again, this and Top Gun: Maverick share a director, and the flying scenes for the latter were equally (if not more) intense. So I’m not surprised at all that I had a similar experience with this movie. That was pretty much what I expected. I’m super glad and relieved that this film turned out as good as it did. I wish I could put it higher, but that does not take away any quality that this movie has. F1 RULES!
#8- Train Dreams (Original Review)
I did not expect Train Dreams to be on this list due to it being one of the more simple movies I saw this year (in a good way). I did have to watch it twice due to me almost falling asleep the first time I watched it (not the movie’s fault, I had just gotten home from work). And I really grew to appreciate its simplicity after the second time. Though that’s not all that this film is. I did mention that the cinematography was one of the film’s strong points, as the shots throughout this film were incredibly vivid and eye piercing. It was beautiful. And Joel Edgerton just made me sad, he did a really good job. If this does receive major recognition during the awards race, I’ll be rooting for it. It was up for Best Picture for Critics Choice while Edgerton has a nomination from both Critics Choice and the Golden Globes.
#7- Final Destination Bloodlines (Original Review)
Final Destination Bloodlines had no right to be as good as it was. With the exception of the first one, most of the franchise are just goofy horror movie fun. While they are entertaining and obviously impactful, they have little to no substance and the characters are forgettable. So Why The Hell Is That Not The Case For THIS ONE?! We actually care for these characters due to them being family. The film remains faithful to its roots while adding some new subtext. We actually get some background to William Bludworth and a bittersweet send off to Tony Todd. Why The HELL Are We All Of A Sudden Getting More Out Of This Franchise?! It Kind Of Pisses Me Off (in a good way)! But yeah, Bloodlines was awesome, and a huge surprise. And thanks to this movie (and unfortunately a real life incident), a whole new generation will be afraid of MRI machines for years and decades to come.
#6- Together (Original Review)
Together was probably the weirdest movie I saw last year. It’s not as gross as The Substance but it definitely had some freaky moments as well as some moments where you want to look away but you can’t help but watch (the saw scene for example, which I also found hilarious). The body horror element worked extremely well with its subject matter. The film’s co-dependency warning and the dynamic between Brie and Franco is what really held this film together (no pun intended), the body horror just added more to a relatively decent story. The story probably would not be much without the body horror element. This is obviously the second horror movie on this list, and we’ve got at least 2 more to go. But I really enjoyed Together a lot. Just don’t watch it while eating (which is pretty much the case for most horror movies).
#5- Ne Zha 2 (Original Review)
So earlier I said that Kpop Demon Hunters was my second favorite animated movie of 2025. It was initially my first, that is until I saw Ne Zha 2. I was beyond amazed by what I was experiencing when I first saw this movie, which says a lot considering I was not super impressed with the first. I could not believe how well crafted the fight scenes were, shocked by the amped up emotional depth, and deeply surprised by Shen Gongbao’s arc. The imagery of this film took my breath away and that final battle was to die for, it was GLORIOUS! Ne Zha 2 was outstanding and I see why it DESTROYED the box-office in China. I’m so upset that it did not receive much attention in the US and that it will be shut out of the award season. Though I am not surprised, just deeply disappointed. Oh well.
#4- Weapons (Original Review)
In my opinion, the best written and carefully crafted movie of the year was Weapons. Because the movie has several central characters, it would’ve been very easy for this story to go all over the place. And it might feel that way at first, but as soon as everything comes together, you will be satisfied. That’s gotta take some serious talent and self-awareness to pull that off (another shout out to Mr. Cregger). Weapons had the best scares I had seen in 2025. This movie is also responsible for probably my favorite villain of the year. Aunt Gladys was FREAKY, and awesome. And it’s nice to see her actress get recognition, she did an awesome job in this. Almost everything about Weapons was great. 3 horror movies down, 1 more to go.
#3- Hamnet (Original Review)
Hamnet was GORGEOUS. I did not mention this in the original review, but the fact that Shakespeare himself is not the central figure is kind of unique. I do not know if this was the case with the book, but that was the impression I got from this movie. There was great acting all around in this, with Mescal and Jupe making my heart burst, and even Emily Watson had her moments. But Buckley pretty much dominated her entire screentime. Seriously if she doesn’t win her Oscar, then the Academy sucks (it already does, but this will add another reason for that). The family dynamic would not be as impactful as it was if the performances were not strong. I really enjoyed this movie, though it is also the second saddest movie I had seen last year. The first (ironically) is next.
#2- The Long Walk (Original Review)
This is easily one of the most TRAUMATIZING movies I have ever seen in my entire life. This is also probably the most brutal movie I’ve seen. Some of the stuff that was shown in this film, I cannot believe was even allowed to be shown onscreen. And pretty much all the deaths ranged from insane, to surprising, to absolutely devastating. This movie was messed up from start to finish. And it also had some strong performances, probably some of the strongest I had seen from last year. Pretty much everyone acted their butts off for this. I know Jonsson and Hoffman are mostly recognized (and for good reason), but I think that everyone did an amazing job. Even Judy Greer, and she only had at least 3 scenes. This movie was hard to watch but it was worth it. And for almost the remainder of 2025, it was my favorite.
And like always, before I reveal my top pick here are some honorable mentions (17-11)...................
Rental Family Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning
Warfare Sketch
Frankenstein
#1- Marty Supreme (Original Review)
THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! I still can’t believe how much I loved it. For a movie that has A LOT going on and is very fast-paced, it does not feel confusing. Every time you think you can breathe, something else stupid happens. There are very few moments of peace in this film. Marty Smartmouth in my opinion was in some ways unlikable, yet it was hard not to root for him and you feel TERRIBLE for him when he finally is humbled due to the ugly manor of how he was humbled. If Chalamet does win an Oscar with this, I would not be surprised nor would I take issue with that, it would be very well deserved. Everyone involved in this; Chalamet, Safdie, etc. should be very proud. I REALLY loved this movie, and this probably would’ve been my target if I had seen this movie earlier than I did. Marty Supreme was AWESOME and my all-time favorite movie of 2025. What a way to end the year!
