Straw & Together

We've officially reached that time of year where I pair movies together (ironically) for one review. Straw stars Taraji P. Henson as a struggling single mom with a sick daughter who snaps after a really bad day. Together stars Dave Franco and Allison Brie as a couple who experience some relatively disturbing bodily modifications.

Straw

Straw was weak at best. It was not the worst thing ever, it was definitely better than Divorce In The Black. Henson pretty much held this movie together, her acting was solid. But it was also marred with melodrama, biases towards one specific group, and long-winded monologues. Speaking as an African American woman, I am not obligated to kiss this movie's or Henson's butt. While the film was better than expected, it is still weak and is not worth your time.

Together
I enjoyed the HELL out of this movie. To my surprise, this was pretty well written as I do see this as somewhat of a cautionary tale on co-dependency. The film does not bash co-dependency, but I think it demonstrates why it is important to draw a line even with your significant other. Brie and Franco's chemistry was incredibly strong, which it should be considering they're married. There were some scenes that were slightly unnecessary (cough cough, BATHROOM SCENE), but given these days they could've been a whole lot worse. Loved this movie, deeply regret initially passing on it.

American Idol 2025 Thoughts: Day 1

American Idol  has officially reached its live shows so that means it's time to start the commentaries. For those of you who didn't track these last year, here's an explanation; I will be saying my thoughts on the contestants and their performances. In typical 'me' fashion, I will rank each performance to #1. But unlike my normal lists, this will be from worst to best.  This will be starting the following week as today is just an introduction. Our Top 24 has been chosen and they are as follows;     Canaan James Hill (Platinum)             Gabby Simone  Zaylie Windsor                         Mattie Pruitt  Thunderstorm Artis                  Drew Ryn  Che                                     ...

Introduction

Bio My name is Naomi Marie Elidios Chadwick. I was born in San Diego, California, but I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I pretty much have a traditional family, which involves happily married parents, 1 younger sister, and an older brother. I was raised Christian, and I continue to practice Christianity to this day. This is not a spiritual blog but some of the content that I post is influenced by my faith. Every now and then I will post Christian content as well, just not always (except with Billboard ). The picture you see up above is me at the airport with my father after I graduated from AmeriCorps NCCC after 10 months of community service. In response I received a congressional award for community service. I've always been really proud of that. I was diagnosed with Asperger's (a form of Autism) around the age of 6, but I was not informed of my diagnosis until I was 12. I'm very into movies and television (animation especially), and pop culture as a whole, and I...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
