The 1st 2-Billion Dollar Animated Movie (And It Deserves It)

My experience with Ne Zha was an interesting case. I learned about both movies' existences through TV ads for the second one. I was reintroduced to them about 2 weeks ago. I watched the first on Netflix and finally saw the second last Thursday. Kicking off literally where the first left off, our titular little terror has to share a body with his friend Ao Bing and complete a trial in order to become immortal, which they have to do in 7 days, or else the latter's pissed-off father will attack Ne Zha's village.

The first one was just decent, I was slightly underwhelmed by the generic animation style. But the second one on the other hand was absolutely INCREDIBLE! It basically took everything from the first one and elevated it times 10. Due to my obviously mellow reaction towards the first movie, I did not expect the sequel to be THIS good. But to my surprise (and horror to be honest), it is. I have not been THIS excited about a movie since ATSV. No, it is not as good as Across; but it shockingly came pretty darn close.

What kept the last movie from being a disappointment for me was the beautiful visuals and the AWESOME fight scenes. The funny thing about the sequel is that the animation style is still cookie-cutter, but you hardly notice it because pretty much everything else around it improved. The fight scenes in the first movie were already great, but in the sequel they felt even more carefully crafted. The fights were so smooth, you can tell how much care went into these scenes. Same goes with the visuals and the scenery of this movie; they were bigger, bolder, grander, crisper. These are good representations of how seasoned these animators have become, a remarkable improvement from the first movie.

The writing for this movie is also a major improvement. How the first one was written is just okay, but the heavier emotional depth for this one was just pure gold. Its take on cherishing your family, the different approach with Shen, there was even some references to the previous film that came full circle in the most emotional and heartbreaking way possible. I wouldn't call the writing Oscar level, but I am still very impressed by the growth.

This movie is currently the highest grossing animated movie of all time, reaching 2 billion dollars in the box-office. No other animated movie in existence has ever made that achievement. This movie managed to do the impossible and I can see why. It is amazing and I applaud every single person involved with this film. They should be very proud. And there BETTER Be A Third One!😡

So.......The Bride😕

So I was completely off-track with The Bride . Did not expect the film to crash and burn as hard as it did with both critics AND the box-office. After getting murdered, a woman by the name of Ida is brought back to life with the intention of being a companion to the oh-so iconic Frankenstein. And together they wreck havoc. Like Wuthering Heights , the movie wasn't terrible but it had a lot of problems. The biggest issue with this film is that it tries way too hard to be edgy and it just doesn't work. It wanted to be this hardcore feminist take on Frankenstein , but it just felt convoluted and slightly underwritten. It had this plotline involving Ida causing some revolution for women and did pretty much nothing with it until the last minute. It was kind of a let down. The best thing about the movie however was the performances and chemistry between Buckley and Christian Bale. I thought they were strangely endearing, and this might be a better love story than Wuthering Heights  (...

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...
