Both off these movies I heard about earlier this year, and I did not receive access to them until recently. Rental Family stars Brendan Fraser as an American actor in Japan who's hired by a rental family agency and gets a little too attached to his clients. Based on the novel of the same name, Hamnet is a fictionalized retelling of the Shakespeare family's lives and the creation/production of Hamlet.
Rental Family
Rental Family was actually pretty good. It did surprisingly make me laugh and had some incredibly sweet moments. Fraser did a good job but Akira Emoto was probably my favorite. Not only was he hilarious, but he also almost made me cry ðŸ˜. I was not super impressed with the movie (honestly I did not think I would be anyway), but I did not leave disappointed either.
Hamnet
This Movie Was SOOOOO GOOOOOD! And I did not think I would be terribly impressed with this either, but literally 5 mins into the movie I was intrigued. Jessie Buckley was without a doubt the standout in this. She acted her BUTT OFF! Paul Mescal broke my heart (JERK😡), and Hamnet himself (Jacobi Jupe) was so SWEET! The dynamic between the Shakespeare family was also something I really enjoyed about the movie. It was so sweet and so HEARTBREAKING! And yes Buckley and Mescal's chemistry was top tier, and I appreciate that it was not overly reliant on sex (though there was one scene). Loved This Movie!
