Top 10 Best Songs Of 2024: Worship

So now it’s worship’s turn. Just a head’s up, some of these songs actually came out before 2024. But they were reviewed because they were #1 on the worship charts during 2024, so I will count them as 2024 hits. This is also technically my first full worship list, try to be respectful please. Anyway 6 gospel songs, 4 CCM ones.

#10: Somebody Like You- Caleb & John Ft. Caine

This song isn't amazing, but it is very fun. The impression I got from the artists involved with this song is that they were happy to know how much God loves them and wasted no time not only spreading that joy, but making sure others know how much God loves them too. I'm not a positive person at all, and I strangely respect that. That doesn't mean I'll be more optimistic, but I do respect someone who is depending on the situation. I mentioned multiple times that we got a lot of joyous songs from 2024, and this is the first of many on this list. This is also obviously the first CCM song on this list. There's not really much to say aside from it being genuinely fun and it's something I highly recommend.

#9: Windows- Pastor Mike Jr.

I like Pastor Mike Jr. He seems like a likeable dude who genuinely enjoys what he's doing. And more importantly, he seems genuinely happy to be worshiping the Lord. That is pretty much the impression I got from listening to Windows. Aside from Jr. 's spirit, the best thing about the song is that hook; Open Up The Window And Let You Blessings Fall On Me. That is strangely clever on Jr.'s part. The song itself is also so inviting. Depending on the situation, sometimes that can be a negative. But in this case, it is a huge positive and it's part of the many things that make this song work. I wouldn't say I listen to It constantly, but the song itself will indeed put a smile on your face and more importantly get you pumped for Jesus (which y'all know I love).

#8: Live Your Best Life- Brent Jones

So I mentioned in the original review for this song that this phrase normally rubs me the wrong way. Not to sound nasty, but I normally find that phrase slightly self-centered and I feel that some people use it as an excuse to be immature. I've never seen it be spoken from a Christian perspective until I listened to this song. The song is basically saying that living is the reason Jesus died (and eventually came back), so you might as well make his sacrifice worth it in your life (though it will always be worth it). I think that's a really creative way of looking at a phrase that I normally cringe at. And of course it's yet another worship song from last year that was genuinely fun, happy, and gets you pumped for Jesus.

#7: Worship Through It- Tasha Layton Ft. Chris Brown

This song has grown on me since the first time I listened to it, though that doesn't mean I have a lot to say about it (nor does that take away from the song). Its message is one I struggle with, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people struggle with worshiping through hard times. I think that's part of the appeal of the song. While I still think this song could've gone just a little bit harder, I do believe this song has a chance of bringing people to God. Especially if you are going through a hard time and at this point you have nothing left to do but praise Him. Once again, this is one of those cases where I respect someone's optimism despite resenting optimism myself. "Resent" is probably a strong word, but that at times is my brutally honest mindset. So I definitely need this song.

#6: Working For Me- Tamela Mann

Tamela Mann is awesome. Just wanted to say that first; now for the song. While she's definitely done better, this song holds up pretty well against others like Take Me To The King in my humble opinion. Like almost always, Mann's vocals are on point and waste no time giving every artist on this list except one a run for their money. But more importantly, she sounds very happy on this track and you can tell she means every word that she is singing, which is probably why her vocals are so strong. I did mention that I didn't like the opening sounding too much like Texas Hold' Em. It's still not my favorite, but I'm not as annoyed by that as I was when I first listened to this song. Other than that, this song is pretty cool. Also Tamela Mann is AWESOME! I know I already said that, but she's literally THAT AWESOME!

#5: Praise- Elevation Worship, Brandon Lake, Chris Brown, & Chandler Moore

So on my secular 2024 music list section for my #9 pick, I spoke on how almost every year we get that one song that's so overhyped and overplayed to the point where it's kind of annoying, but you still can't help but like it because it's so dang catchy. That happens with worship music also, especially when it's been #1 on the Christian music charts for WAY too long and your church has been doing it over a billion times. That's my relationship with Praise. But I can't help but be endeared by it. It's a very fun and inviting song that will get you pumped for the Lord. Yes, it taking over the charts was rather irritating for me. But I won't deny that I understand why. It's a good song, I'll never disregard or deny that. Also, Brandon Lake will make another appearance on this list.

#4: That's My King- Cece Winans

So I mentioned during my #6 commentary that Tamela Mann gave every artist on this list a run for their money in terms of vocals. That is except one and that is the legendary Cece Winans. Cece Freakin' RULES!!!!!!!!!  And this song is an example of that. It is so fun and has an incredibly powerful hook. What really amazes me about the song is that Cece has been in the industry for as long as I can remember and her vocals are still on point. They're as clean and crisp as ever. That both amazes me and pisses me off (in a good way). I personally think that part of the reason for its stability is because it's obvious how much she genuinely loves singing for the Lord. I know I say that a lot, but again we got a lot of songs like that last year and this one is no exception. Also, my church has done this several times as well. I LOVE YOU CECE!

#3: Hard Fought Hallelujah- Brandon Lake

Welcome Back Lake! I’m genuinely irritated that this man is growing on me. Again not that I disliked him (which I mentioned in the original review), but I felt that it was getting to the point where he was getting overhyped and I really did not expect this song to be THIS good. The composition is gorgeous while the subject matter will resonate with anybody and will move you whether you’re Christian or not. Also I love the choir in this, they add a lot of emotion to the song. And I appreciate how you can feel that Lake means every word he is singing in this. Given his history with depression, I see where he is coming from with this track. This song probably grew on me the most out of the others. That really pisses me off to the point where it kind of irks me that I put this higher than Cece. I would’ve expected that with a Gospel artist, not Lake. This is also the highest ranking CCM song on this list.

#2: Do You Believe In Love- Erica Campbell

So I mentioned that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Erica Campbell’s work as a solo artist after her departure from Mary Mary. A Little More Jesus is not my favorite, and while I Luh God is undeniably catchy, I never really loved the track myself. This track marks the first time I genuinely like Campbell as a solo artist. I adore its reggae beat as well as the hook of the chorus (which I didn’t mention in the original review). I’m not a fan of the bridge, which is what kept this from topping the list. But overall, I really like this song and I have zero issue listening to it on repeat. I’m actually surprised this isn’t a single and It makes me wonder how on earth this topped the Gospel charts. Well it did, and I’m glad it did. Yet another joyful worship song for 2024 with one more to go.

Take It All Back- Tauren Wells    STG-VaShawn Mitchell

-Fine enough                                                                                            -Donnie was probably the best part

In Him There Is No Sorrow- Donald Lawrence, Yolanda Adams, & Twinkie Clark

-The most nostalgic for me

#1: Nobody But God- Tim Bowman Jr. & Faith City Music

This song is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! It is an absolute banger and the most fun song of the year. They spend a good majority of the song saying the title, but somehow that works so well with the style of the song. It would be different if either the melody or the performance of the lyrics (or even both) didn’t have as much power as they have. But the lyrics (albeit simple) are sung with so much enthusiasm that you can’t help but want to worship with Bowman and company. And you can tell he’s serious about his faith in God. The bridge is without a doubt the best and most fun part of the song. There’s also a version with Kierra Sheard that I also recommend. This is the song I had on repeat the most last year and I have not gotten sick of it yet. I freakin’ LOVE this song so much, I probably will for years to come and it is my all-time favorite of 2024.

Deadpool: Marvel's Favorite Idiot

Deadpool & Wolverine was probably the most anticipated movie of the year. With Disney taking over Fox and Deadpool joining the MCU , the time has finally come for the finishing result. Wade Wilson (portrayed of course by Ryan Reynolds) is offered to be taken out of his dimension in favor of the MCU. The only problem is his dimension is in the process of disintegration after the evens of Logan (😢) and Tom Wambsgans- I mean Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) decides to end its misery and destroy it instead of waiting for the inevitable. Obviously this doesn't sit well with Wade, so he turns to a more incompetent version of Wolverine (one deemed the "worst" Wolverine) to help save his dimension.  This movie was exactly what a Deadpool movie needs to be, stupid as HELL. Deadpool remains an idiot and his dynamic with Wolverine was very well paced. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's chemistry was very good and surprisingly very balanced. Both characters had their fair-sh...

Top 10 Signature Songs

You know how an artists has that one song that pretty much defines their career and who they are as an artist? This is a list of those songs. Please keep in mind that just because an artist and their song is on the list doesn’t mean I like the song or the artist (especially the artist). It just means that I acknowledge the impact and importance of the song and/or artist. One song per artist. #10: The Real Slim Shady- Eminem Technically speaking, Lose Yourself is more notable than The Real Slim Shady . But I feel like this song really set the standard on who Eminem is as an artist. He pretty much hit the jackpot when coming up with such an iconic nickname, and Eminem presents it with so much personality, style, rhythm and aggression that it just works. I'm not even sure if it could have as much of an effect on people with someone else in the track. Only Eminem could make it work. Again I have nothing against Lose Yourself , in fact I love that song more than this one. But I feel ...

Top 10 Illumination Characters

With Despicable Me 4 out and about, I decided to make a list of it’s home studio Illumination’s most notable characters. They don’t have to be original characters, they just have to have appeared in at least one or more of Illumination’s library. Because of the studio’s limited amount of movies, more than 1 character from the same movie will be featured on the list. While former villains will also be included, full blown villains (such as Vector and/or Bowser) are excluded. Live-action films are also excluded. #10:  Max- The Secret Life Of Pets Now I've never seen Secret Life Of Pets or its sequel, so bear with me. Basically a rehash of Toy Story , Max serves as the dog of Katie. But when Duke comes into the picture, he start's stealing Max's thunder, resulting in him getting Jealous with a capital J. Things get even more intense when they are caught by animal control. Max is Illumination's version of Woody, that's pretty much the most notable thing about this c...
