First Day Of 2023/2024 Awards Race

My football season has officially begun. Awards and nominations are being given out to some of the biggest movies of the year (whether some deserve it or not), and I'm wasting no time keeping track on the big ones. For those who didn't read last year's, around this time of year I like to track down the important movie awards and speak on my thoughts.

Here's How This Works: Each year, I will have a target subject I'm rooting for this season. When the nominations for each award show are announced, I will do a small commentary on whether or not the subject has a chance of winning. If the subject is snubbed in that particular award show, it will be skipped. I will most likely say a last minute thought the day before the award show. I will be tracking down all the way up to the big dogs: THE OSCARS.

The Awards

While last year there was 5 award shows, this year I will only be doing 4:

-The Golden Globes

-The Critics Choice

-The BAFTAs

and of course

-The Oscars

Again, the award will be skipped if the target is snubbed.

The Target

The targets will be a movie or an actor/actress that I'm rooting for this season. The subject doing well some-what depends on the success of the movie. So it is possible for me to think the subject will do poorly, but I will root for it either way.

This Year's Subject:

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

I have been raving about this movie all year, and clearly I am not finished. You have no idea how much I LOVE this movie and how BADLY I want it to win the Oscar. I know the first one has an Oscar, and it DESERVED it's win. But this one deserves a win too and I really hope Spider-Verse gets another win. And don't get me wrong, It has an EXTREMELY high chance of winning. But I won't deny it has some big competition, mainly The Boy & The Heron. I'm keeping an eye on that movie.

Dates:

Golden Globes:

Nominations- Today      Event- January 7, 2024

Critics Choice:

Nominations- Wednesday     Event- January 14, 2024

BAFTAs:

Nominations- January 18, 2024     Event- February 18, 2024

The Oscars:

Nominations- January 23, 2024     Event- March 10, 2024

I will not be doing the SAG awards this year as they do not have an animation category (that and I'm salty towards them for the stupid strike that delayed Beyond The Spider-Verse😒).

Golden Globe Results & Thoughts

ATSV received way more nominations than I expected, as It ultimately received 3 nominations (including Animated Feature Film). I'm pleasantly surprised and extremely happy to see that, but I am also worried as it is competing against The Boy & The Heron in 2 of those categories. I guess we'll see what happens.

Deadpool: Marvel's Favorite Idiot

Deadpool & Wolverine was probably the most anticipated movie of the year. With Disney taking over Fox and Deadpool joining the MCU , the time has finally come for the finishing result. Wade Wilson (portrayed of course by Ryan Reynolds) is offered to be taken out of his dimension in favor of the MCU. The only problem is his dimension is in the process of disintegration after the evens of Logan (😢) and Tom Wambsgans- I mean Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) decides to end its misery and destroy it instead of waiting for the inevitable. Obviously this doesn't sit well with Wade, so he turns to a more incompetent version of Wolverine (one deemed the "worst" Wolverine) to help save his dimension.  This movie was exactly what a Deadpool movie needs to be, stupid as HELL. Deadpool remains an idiot and his dynamic with Wolverine was very well paced. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's chemistry was very good and surprisingly very balanced. Both characters had their fair-sh...

Top 10 Signature Songs

You know how an artists has that one song that pretty much defines their career and who they are as an artist? This is a list of those songs. Please keep in mind that just because an artist and their song is on the list doesn’t mean I like the song or the artist (especially the artist). It just means that I acknowledge the impact and importance of the song and/or artist. One song per artist. #10: The Real Slim Shady- Eminem Technically speaking, Lose Yourself is more notable than The Real Slim Shady . But I feel like this song really set the standard on who Eminem is as an artist. He pretty much hit the jackpot when coming up with such an iconic nickname, and Eminem presents it with so much personality, style, rhythm and aggression that it just works. I'm not even sure if it could have as much of an effect on people with someone else in the track. Only Eminem could make it work. Again I have nothing against Lose Yourself , in fact I love that song more than this one. But I feel ...

Top 10 Illumination Characters

With Despicable Me 4 out and about, I decided to make a list of it’s home studio Illumination’s most notable characters. They don’t have to be original characters, they just have to have appeared in at least one or more of Illumination’s library. Because of the studio’s limited amount of movies, more than 1 character from the same movie will be featured on the list. While former villains will also be included, full blown villains (such as Vector and/or Bowser) are excluded. Live-action films are also excluded. #10:  Max- The Secret Life Of Pets Now I've never seen Secret Life Of Pets or its sequel, so bear with me. Basically a rehash of Toy Story , Max serves as the dog of Katie. But when Duke comes into the picture, he start's stealing Max's thunder, resulting in him getting Jealous with a capital J. Things get even more intense when they are caught by animal control. Max is Illumination's version of Woody, that's pretty much the most notable thing about this c...
