Back To Black Review

Kicking off my birthday week, me and my mom went to see the film Back To Black. As you can obviously tell by the name of the film, this is a biopic on the British singer Amy Winehouse, her rise to fame leading all the way up to her death.

While the movie wasn't terrible, it was rather anticlimactic. Me and my mom both felt the way it end kind of sucked, as if the writers got bored and just decided to end it. They could've at least shown a news report of her death, a montage of her, or at least her dad's reaction. But they just ended it, just like that. There was also a little bit of overacting on the lead actress's part, particularly during the music sequences.

On the positive, the music featured in the movie (not just Winehouse's) I actually enjoyed. I felt like it was relatively versatile, which is surprising for me. I feel like this movie made me understand  Winehouse a lot more. As someone who was never really a fan of Winehouse and thought she was one of those artists who was just difficult for no reason, the movie made me understand that she really didn't know any other way to deal with heartbreak aside from drugs and drinking, which is sad. I also really liked her relationship with her grandmother, and her dad tried. He made some mistakes but he tried.

Considering this movie was directed by the same person who directed the Fifty Shades trilogy, I'm not really that surprised the movie turned out to be lackluster. This is not a good year for biopics. Thanks for reading.

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
