Underwhelming😒

The Dog Stars was based on a post-apocalyptic novel by Peter Heller and focuses on a former mechanic by the name of Hig, who lost his family during a pandemic (ironically considering 2020). The cast is relatively decent with Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin and Allison Janney and is directed by Ridley Scott.

This was an underwhelming and boring mess. This was promoted as some type of action movie when most of the action didn't even start until halfway through the movie. If you remember from a few months ago, I mentioned that Project Hail Mary isn't very action packed either, minus the fishing scene of course. But the reason I can't take issue with that is because its emotional core, beautiful visuals, compelling story and more fills that void. This movie has none of that accept for visuals.

The characters are very uninteresting, and I'm convinced most of the actors didn't even want to be there. I felt bad for Hig, but his characterization was overly reliant on his tragedy. I'm aware several people care for Thanos and for good reason, but I'll just take or leave him. Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce were boring, and the film did absolutely nothing with the Reapers. 

Allison Janney was the only actor and character that really stood out to me and she was barely even in the movie. The movie also completely wasted the Grand Junction storyline, we were there for 2 seconds and that was it. Such a disappointment.   

I really wanted this movie to be good. Probably the biggest let down of the year for me. Thanks For Reading.

So.......The Bride😕

So I was completely off-track with The Bride . Did not expect the film to crash and burn as hard as it did with both critics AND the box-office. After getting murdered, a woman by the name of Ida is brought back to life with the intention of being a companion to the oh-so iconic Frankenstein. And together they wreck havoc. Like Wuthering Heights , the movie wasn't terrible but it had a lot of problems. The biggest issue with this film is that it tries way too hard to be edgy and it just doesn't work. It wanted to be this hardcore feminist take on Frankenstein , but it just felt convoluted and slightly underwritten. It had this plotline involving Ida causing some revolution for women and did pretty much nothing with it until the last minute. It was kind of a let down. The best thing about the movie however was the performances and chemistry between Buckley and Christian Bale.
