Hello Mr. Bourdain👋🏾


I'm gonna be honest, I barely know anything about Anthony Bourdain aside from his suicide. So I guess I learned a little more about him through this movie. This film depicts the early life of Bourdain, particularly him going to Massachusetts after being rejected a fellowship and finds himself working at a restaurant.

 I really enjoyed this movie. The acting and poignancy was probably the strongest aspects of this film and Dominic Sessa, Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas were definitely the standouts. Banderas was hilarious (especially with a bucket of water), but also balanced with versatility and vulnerability. Woodall was a jerk, and Sessa was brilliant as Bourdain himself 

The movie was funny, but also very warm and inviting as it showcased this obnoxious kid getting a well deserved butt-whomping and learning to appreciate food. Though you also understand the kid as he was dealing with constant disappointment as well. There was also a little reference to Bourdain's unfortunate end that I found interesting.

So.......The Bride😕

So I was completely off-track with The Bride . Did not expect the film to crash and burn as hard as it did with both critics AND the box-office. After getting murdered, a woman by the name of Ida is brought back to life with the intention of being a companion to the oh-so iconic Frankenstein. And together they wreck havoc. Like Wuthering Heights , the movie wasn't terrible but it had a lot of problems. The biggest issue with this film is that it tries way too hard to be edgy and it just doesn't work. It wanted to be this hardcore feminist take on Frankenstein , but it just felt convoluted and slightly underwritten. It had this plotline involving Ida causing some revolution for women and did pretty much nothing with it until the last minute. It was kind of a let down. The best thing about the movie however was the performances and chemistry between Buckley and Christian Bale.
