This Ranking Will Contain Raye

So my sister has been raving about this album for a while now and urged me to listen to it myself and give it a review. The only reason I won't do a traditional review is because If I post a review for one album, I might be expected to post more. So instead I'm gonna rank every single song from this album from my least favorite to the best. I'm not gonna say "worst" because there's not really a bad song on this album. Just some that I like more than others. Only the top 3 will be receiving full commentaries.

We are going to divide the songs into 4 categories; Decent👍🏾, Good😊, Great ❤️(#3 & 2), & GOAT⭐(#1)

 Decent; They're Fine, That's It

#17: Fin- Basically end credits, not much to judge

#16: Intro- Just an intro, again not much to judge

#15: Fields- This one was cute

#14: Goodbye Henry- Don't know how she got Al Green, but good for her

                 #13: I Hate The Way I Look Today- It's fine, that's it

#12: Nightingale Lane- Vocally her best probably

#11: Where Is My Husband- Don't Judge Please

Good; Most Of These Songs Are Bops
#10: Beware…The South London Lover Boy - Beware A Bop!

               #9: Winter Woman- Nice production

#8: Joy- Lyrics from the Bible, Respect✊🏾

#7: Happier Times Ahead- Slightly nostalgic

#6: The WhatsApp Shakespeare- Same as #9

#5: Skin & Bones- Another BOP!

#4: I Know You're Hurting- Most emotional track on the album

 Great; Easy Favorites. Commentaries Included

#3: Click Clack Symphony

One of the things I love the most about the album is that it feels like a soundtrack. As a cinephile, that’s obviously going to be an immediate highlight for me. Of all the tracks on this album, this one sounds the most like a movie song. Hans Zimmer, a film score legend (Lion King, Dune, Prince Of Egypt, etc) is featured in this track, what the Hell do you expect? The track is dramatic in the best way possible, Zimmer’s composition was simply majestic, and Raye’s narration was relatable and poignant. It was GLORIOUS. While the song is obviously in last place in terms of my top 3 favorites from this album, that’s only by a grain of salt (well at least when it comes to #2 & 3 anyway). The only reason this song is even in 3rd place is because the song is relatively long, which is also what keeps me from listening to it as often as the next 2. But regardless, the song is still gorgeous and one of the album’s best tracks.

#2: I Will Overcome

This song is also relatively cinematic as well, though that aspect is not as straight forward as the previous track. This song probably has some of the strongest lyrics on this album. Raye’s reference to Amy Winehouse is one of the main sources of her strong lyricism. But her lyricism for this song is at its strongest when it is referencing the Bible. I like Joy, I really do. And as I mentioned earlier, it also referenced the Bible. But for me personally, I Will Overcome is stronger and possibly deeper as well. It should come as no surprise that the faith that is felt throughout this song and Joy is deeply appreciated. And Raye sang her heart out in this, mainly at the very end where the song is at its most cinematic. I’ve had this song moderately on repeat for a while now to the point where I did consider giving it the top spot. For now it is runner-up, though it was not an easy decision and even now I have my doubts. This track is THAT good.

 GOAT; Pretty Self-Explanatory

#1: Life Boat

She didn’t give up indeed. I had an interesting time with this track. I did like it the first time I listened to it, but the second or third time I listened to it was more memorable. I really listened to the lyrics and let them sink in, which resulted in me crying. That section in the middle of the song about rejection, failure and disappointment is what got to me. I’ve been there, I’m still there to be honest and it’s probably not gonna get better. The relatable lyrics are one thing, but they were also paired with a fist-pumping composition and production. Everything in this song just comes together beautifully. This is probably the best song I’ve heard this year, and I really wish it was a single so it could be eligible to put on my end-of-the-year list. But unfortunately it is not (my deepest apologies to my sister). With that being said, I love this song. I’ve probably listened to it the most out of all the songs on this album, and that’s most likely not gonna stop any time soon.

In terms of the album as a whole, I highly recommend it. Thanks For Reading

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

So.......The Bride😕

So I was completely off-track with The Bride . Did not expect the film to crash and burn as hard as it did with both critics AND the box-office. After getting murdered, a woman by the name of Ida is brought back to life with the intention of being a companion to the oh-so iconic Frankenstein. And together they wreck havoc. Like Wuthering Heights , the movie wasn't terrible but it had a lot of problems. The biggest issue with this film is that it tries way too hard to be edgy and it just doesn't work. It wanted to be this hardcore feminist take on Frankenstein , but it just felt convoluted and slightly underwritten. It had this plotline involving Ida causing some revolution for women and did pretty much nothing with it until the last minute. It was kind of a let down. The best thing about the movie however was the performances and chemistry between Buckley and Christian Bale. I thought they were strangely endearing, and this might be a better love story than Wuthering Heights  (...
