At this point, Despicable Me really needs to come to an end. With that being said, unlike Toy Story it's not as heartbreaking to watch this franchise get stretched so thin because as great as the first 2 movies were I only expect dumb family fun in these. Nothing deeper. Minions & Monsters actually centers on a different group of minions than the ones we're used to. 2 of them; James and Henry decide to make a monster movie🤦🏾♀️.
This was surprisingly a step up from Despicable Me 4. I wouldn't say that the movie was super strong, but it is probably the first decent film in the franchise since Despicable Me 2 (which in my humble opinion is the best movie in the franchise). The charm didn't feel worn-out or stale, it actually felt genuine and natural. Don't get me wrong there is never a time where the minions aren't hilarious, but its gotten to a point were the franchise was overly reliant on the minions being stupid and didn't even bother with the writing. I did not feel that at all with this movie, there was even a plotline involving Dort that was actually quite surprising.
This franchise still needs to end, but I was still pleasantly surprised with this movie. Thanks For Reading.
