So I read The Odyssey in high school and while I do remember enjoying the story, I barely remember any of it aside from Odysseus being gone for a long time, his wife fighting off a bunch of creeps and the cyclops getting stabbed in the eye. This is obviously Christopher Nolan's interpretation of the story. And he brought one Hell of a cast with him.
I originally had high expectations for this movie until the controversies (more on that later, sort of), that caused me to believe that I was most likely going to hate the movie despite its qualities like I do with Zootopia. I Was Wrong, This Movie Was AWESOME And I Loved Every Bit Of It (Almost)! Granted, I was also stressed out pretty much the entire time as well. This movie was like a ticking time bomb, but also very well balanced between the action scenes and the tender moments. The film knew when to draw me in with the strong acting (not a single bad performance; all-star cast, what do you expect?) and when to keep me on the edge of my seat. This was basically 3 hours, and I was glued to the screen from start to finish.
Considering the amount of cast members in this film it would've been extremely easy for this to either become overbearing or for some cast members and characters to be underused. Amazingly that was not the case at all in this movie, every single person and character felt needed and were used to the best of there abilities. This should've been convoluted, yet somehow it wasn't, that's INCREBILE! Along with Nolan's direction and the performances, the cinematography and visuals were beautifully done. They were definitely NOT stronger than Project Hail Mary's (to be honest, not even close), but that doesn't take away from its beauty. The film as a whole was extremely well crafted.
So in terms of the controversies, I absolutely understand why people are annoyed speaking as someone who despises politics being inserted into everything and people have a right to be annoyed. Again I barely even remember most of the story (as possibly do most people) so accuracy is irrelevant for me personally. The reasons behind the inaccuracy however are not, I am aware that some changes from the source material as well as the inclusion of a certain character was done for toxic reasons and that is the one flaw I have with this movie. But to my surprise it was not enough for me to hate it, probably because I don't remember the original story🤷🏾♀️.
If this movie turned out bad, Nolan would've had A LOT of explaining to do. This Movie Was Awesome, Go See It! Thanks For Reading.
