Animal Farm was actually released last year, but not a wide release until two weeks ago. Based on the George Orwell book of the same name, the film centers on a group of animals who take over their farm after rescuing themselves from being sent to the slaughter house. Unfortunately things go awry when Napoleon takes over.
This movie was basically nothing. It had nothing to offer accept the source material, which to my understanding the movie didn't even do justice. The animation was bland at best, the writing we'll talk about later, and the voice acting was so-so. The cast for this movie is actually STACKED. We've got Seth Rogan, Woody Harrelson, Kieran Culkin, even Glenn Close was involved in this. So with a cast like this, I expected stronger acting. But it was just generic. Pretty much everything about this movie was generic, it was nothing special, it didn't elevate the source material, it's nothing, period.
The writing was both boring and stupid. It tried to throw in a coming-of-age story that wasn't in the original book. I like a good coming-of-age story and Lucky was cute enough, but I was uninterested in his growing pains. The writing got stupid when the pigs started standing on 2 feet and were all of a sudden able to communicate with humans. Glenn Close's character was a business woman, and she eventually collaborated with Napoleon, because making business deals with a pig is normal (she said sarcastically😒). Things got even more cringey when Napoleon requested to be referred to as "Na-po po" 🤦🏾♀️. The writing was lame, it was boring, and just plane dumb.
What bugs me the most about the film is that this is from Angel Studios. They have done BETTER than this. The Chosen (which has a new season coming out in November),The Sound Of Freedom, even last year with Sketch. There is no excuse for this! So disappointed in them. Thanks For Reading.
