Michael Review

With all due respect to Mr. Jackson, I do not believe he needed a biopic. But again, Hollywood has been having a strange fetish for music biopics over the last few years. So of course there needed to be a biopic about the GOAT of entertainment. This retelling of Mr. Jackson's story features his nephew Jaafar taking on this iconic role.

The biopic was fine at best, albeit slightly generic. Though I personally did not think it was as bad as people claimed it was. If anything, Antoine Fuqua did the best he could with his material. A lot of people are annoyed with the movie "sanitizing" Jackson's story. Me on the other hand, I could not care less. And besides, certain aspects of Jackson's life could not be touched upon due to legal reasons anyway. That's why Janet's not in the picture, that's why the abuse allegations were omitted, and so on and so forth. So if ya'll wanna blame anyone for that, blame the system and not Fuqua.

The problems I had with this movie is that it was too fast-paced in the beginning and had an inconsistent plot.  While it was definitely about Jackson trying to break away from his father's control, the movie was marred with unnecessary filler scenes which is why the plot felt inconsistent. It was like the fast-pacing was replaced with retellings of unimportant aspects in Jackson's life.

The soundtrack and Jaafar Jackson were the best things about the movie. I think pretty much all of us knew that that the songs would be absolute bangers, again this is MICHAEL FREAKIN' JACKSON. Jaafar did a fantastic job, he really was very close to his uncle. I will also give him major props for holding his own against veterans such as Domingo and Long. Another indication that he did his job very well.

I think it's good that moonwalkers and those who grew up during that era (like my mother) are satisfied with the finishing result. At the end of the day, they KNOW Jackson's story so nostalgia was all that was needed from this movie and was exactly what they got. That's not a bad or good thing, that's up to you to decide. But overall for me, the movie was just fine. Thanks For Reading

So.......The Bride😕

So I was completely off-track with The Bride . Did not expect the film to crash and burn as hard as it did with both critics AND the box-office. After getting murdered, a woman by the name of Ida is brought back to life with the intention of being a companion to the oh-so iconic Frankenstein. And together they wreck havoc. Like Wuthering Heights , the movie wasn't terrible but it had a lot of problems. The biggest issue with this film is that it tries way too hard to be edgy and it just doesn't work. It wanted to be this hardcore feminist take on Frankenstein , but it just felt convoluted and slightly underwritten. It had this plotline involving Ida causing some revolution for women and did pretty much nothing with it until the last minute. It was kind of a let down. The best thing about the movie however was the performances and chemistry between Buckley and Christian Bale. I thought they were strangely endearing, and this might be a better love story than Wuthering Heights  (...

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...
