Wuthering Heights Was So Weird!🤨

No one expected this movie to be good, at all. Were people right, it's kind of a mixed bag in my humble opinion. Starring Barbie and the recently Oscar-nominated Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights is based on the Emily Brontë novel of the same name and centers on the "complicated"  and "tragic" love life of Catherine and Heathcliff.

This movie was weird on so many levels. It's not as terrible as most people believed it would be, but it definitely had more issues than highlights. One of the biggest issues being the overuse of BDSM. I've never read the original book, so I might not be the right person to be judging this. But it is to my understanding that BDSM wasn't even in the original book. Hell, even if Bronte wanted to go down that road, she most likely couldn't given the century she was living in. So I'm not really sure what was even the point of including it in this film in the first place aside from profiting off the attractive leads. The film was severely over-sexualized for no reason at all.

Was Cathy and Heathcliff's relationship THIS problematic in the original story? Because if it is, then this is the worst relationship EVER! I'm also aware that the film is not super faithful to the book as well and this is part of the reason why I'm asking. From my perspective, I thought both of these 2 had a habit of making their own lives difficult for the sake of one-upping the other. Cathy in particular likes playing the victim a lot, and those type characters always piss me off. The sad part about Heathcliff is that I actually liked him at the start of the movie, then he got rich and became a total douchebag. I'm not gonna lie, their relationship did have some romantic moments, Elordi and Robbie did have very good chemistry. But overall most of their relationship was just sex, one-upping each other, and toxic decisions. It was very Euphoria-ish (I'm Looking At You Jacob Elordi!😡).

And they weren't the only characters that rubbed me the wrong way. I have very mixed feelings about Nelly. Sometimes she had a point, but other times I found her to be petty and her intentions are very unclear. No one likes Cathy's dad, Edgar was meh, and Isabella.........pray for her.

Not everything about the movie was a problem. The production design and costuming were amazing and I actually liked Charli XCX's work in the film. One the songs she does for this movie I actually really like.

Regardless, this is a very good example of style over substance. This film did not give off the vibes it was aiming for. The fact that I heard a group of people in my theatre laughing after this movie ended says a lot. Not a thumbs down, but not a thumbs up either. Thanks For Reading.

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
