So a lot of people have been saying this was a bad year for music. Initially I thought that was a bit over the top. But looking back over the songs I listened to this year, I’m noticing that they’re probably right. While I personally would not call this a bad year, It was definitely dry. So making this list was somewhat of a hassle. 2 of these entries weren’t even placed on this list out of sincerity, I just needed material. So I unenthusiastically present my favorite hit songs of 2025.
#10: Where Is My Husband- Raye
With all due respect to this song and Raye, this is only on the list due to the lack of material from this year. I do not hate this song at all, but I would not consider it a favorite either. I just unfortunately do not have a lot to work with, so it's on the list. Again, this is not a bad song. It’s actually very catchy and works very well with Raye’s jazz roots, especially in terms of the subject matter. I wish I liked this more than I do and that this was placed on the list for genuine reasons, but unfortunately that was not the case. With that being said, this does not take away from the song at all. It’s still a nice listen and a colorful entry in an otherwise relatively dry year. I still have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears, and honestly I don’t care enough to. Again no disrespect towards Raye, I just don’t care.

#9: Abracadabra- Lady Gaga
Abracadabra is on this list for pretty much the same reasons. I know a lot of people are raving and ranting about this song, and I did say that the song is very entertaining. Though I am not a fan of Gaga, I do believe her older stuff had better material. Because this song plays into Gaga’s artistry during her early days, this song has a little bit of nostalgia and it serves as a strength for it. With that being said, I do see Gaga as one of those artists whom critics and fans will worship when they do just about anything. So as accomplished as the song is, I do not believe its success is genuine. My opinion on this combined with the lack of material for the overall year is what resulted in Abracadabra being placed low on the list. It is a decent song, but Gaga has done better and my lack of care for her keeps this from being placed any higher.

#8: Daisies- Justin Bieber
Daisies is the first genuine pick on this list. Like most songs I listened to throughout the year, Daisies has grown on me since my first listen. Maybe not as much as other songs like How It’s Done, but still enough for me to care for it more than my previous entries. It also helps that I’m relatively concerned for Bieber’s health. As I mentioned in the original review, the bass guitar is what holds this song together and is by far the best element of the song. This is also one of Bieber’s better newer songs and more mature in comparison to crappy songs like Yummy. Seriously, what was he thinking when he wrote that? But yeah, I enjoy Daisies and this was placed on the list out of genuine affection towards the song and care towards the artist. He’s never gonna see this, but take care of yourself Bieber.

#7: Soda Pop- The Saja Boys
The first of 3 KPop Demon Hunters songs on this list, Soda Pop did its job by serving as both earworms and character analysis for the fictional artists. As I mentioned in the original review, the annoyingly catchy vibe works because of the Saja Boys’ main goal, to steal people’s souls for their master Gwi-Ma. And unfortunately if they were real, it probably would work considering how popular the song has become. I also mentioned in the review for KPop that Your Idol (which is not on this list) feels like an allegory for celebrity worship. Looking back at Soda Pop, this might also be an allegory on the music industry being corrupt. This is probably not intentional (like I keep saying for KPop being spiritual), but it does add more complexity to an already strong song. 1 down, 2 more to go.

#6: What I Want- Morgan Wallen Ft. Tate McRae
Controversial pick #1. I’ve said this before and I will say it again, I am not here to condemn or show favoritism towards Wallen, especially considering I have only ever heard at least 3 of his songs. The first was with Post Malone and I HATED it for being boring and generic. The second I thought was just straight up weird. This is the only song I’ve heard from Wallen that I like due to the beat and production. They work EXTREMELY well together along with Wallen and Tate McRae’s vocals. The song for me is a BANGER and that has not changed long after my first listen. Do I listen to it as often as songs like Golden, no. But again, this year really lacked in terms of material and songs I really connected with. This is one of the songs I connected with and at the end of the day it’s my list. I like what I like and that’s not gonna change. I enjoyed this song for what it was and not for who’s involved.

#5: Anxiety- Doechii
Controversial pick #2. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why Anxiety is hated. Doechii’s voice is very annoying and I won’t deny that some of the lyrics are not the greatest. So why do I like it? Well as I mentioned in the original review, the moody tone of the song is perfect for the sample. I’ve heard Somebody That I Used To Know many times, it’s still better than this. But I still like the usage of the original track for this. And as annoying as she sounds, I do believe Doechii gave it her best on this track. Regardless of whether anyone likes this song or not, it blew up on TikTok for a reason. Good reasons or bad, it still blew up. And it’s nominated for Record and Song Of The Year at the Grammys. Anxiety might’ve done something right. And even if it didn’t, clearly the industry doesn’t care. And again, it’s my list. I like what I like.

#4: How It's Done- Huntrix
KPop song #2. My second favorite song from the movie (we all know the first, we’ll talk about it later), How It’s Done truly introduced the girls in the most epic way possible. A good majority of the lyrics are iconic without even trying, particularly Fit check for my napalm era! Huntrix don’t miss is also a strong lyric, as even though it is relatively simple it is sung with so much enthusiasm and confidence. The rapping surprisingly does not feel cheesy, and that high note at the very end is pure gold (again no pun intended). Shout to Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami (Ejae especially) for still bringing so much personality to the characters and not relying too much on the lyrics or the actual voice actors. However I will once again ask How The Hell Was Ejae Able To Record This?! This Woman Is Insane (In A Good Way)!

#3: Midnight Sun- Zara Larsson
Oh how my sister is going to love this. Midnight Sun is somewhat underrated in a few ways. This song is better than most of the #1 hits we received this year and even has more memorability. Part of the reason for that is Larsson’s vocal performance during the chorus. She might be just as insane as Ejae as I will never understand how on Earth she’s able to hold that note for SO LONG. That is RIDICULOUS! This is also just a great song for the summertime. I did mention that this is competing against Abracadabra at the Grammys. I know most people prefer Abracadabra and are rooting for it, but this in my humble opinion is 10 million times better than it. It’s fun, it’s lighthearted, and it’s catchy. This 100% deserves its nomination and deserves a win even more. It’s not gonna get the win, but what can I do?

#2: Golden- Huntrix
Of course Golden was gonna make the list, and high too. I’m sure it was expected to top the list as well. And while that was taken into consideration, it’s ultimately #2 for today. Obviously the highest ranking KPop song on the list, Golden is just too infectious to ignore. And provides great analysis on the girls and their backgrounds as well as Rumi’s insecurities as a half-demon. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do with presenting its characters while also being extremely catchy. And don’t get me started on that high note. What On Earth Was She Thinking When Writing This!? But yeah Golden is great, and was an easy contender for my #1 spot. I definitely did want to throughout the year, but there was one song I thought was just a little bit better. Though to be honest, it’s only by a grain of salt.

For the first time ever, no honorable mentions.
#1: Luther- Kendrick Lamar & SZA
Sampling has become the bane of existence in the music industry as several artists are relying too much on recycling the old track and either disrespect them by saying they’re outdated, or trying too hard to pay tribute to them. That is one of many reasons why Luther is such a breath of fresh air. Not only is it obvious that Lamar respects Luther Vandross, but he also did a REALLY good job of putting his own spin on Vandross’ If This World Were Mine (ironic considering Vandross is not even the original artist of that song). Him and SZA work very well together, which I’ve been knowing after All The Stars. Technically speaking, this came out in 2024, but I’m still counting the song. As much as I love Golden, Luther grew on me the most and is my best song of 2025, ironically after Lamar was runner-up last year.
