Wasn't A Smash, But Not Bad

I think Smashing Machine slowly but surely lost its spark after its Rotten Tomatoes score was revealed. Despite supposedly receiving a standing ovation, both critics and the box-office are shown to not be as excited. In the film, The Rock portrays Mark Kerr, a now retired wrestler/mixed martial artist.

The problem with this movie is that it has the elements to be amazing, but it did not use them to its advance. The film waited too long to elevate things to the next level. And even when it did, nothing was done with it in the aftermath. The movie relied a little too much on style, The Rock, and Emily Blunt (more on them later). This did not completely destroy the movie, it just did not take advantage of its elements, at all.

Another issue I had with the movie was that I'm unsure what aspect of Kerr's life it was focusing on. First, I thought It focused on his relationship with Dawn, then I thought it was on him and Coleman's friendship, then his drug addiction. Maybe the film was trying to balance out those aspects. But if that's the case, it did not do the greatest job. The film wasn't completely convoluted, I just was not sure what was the main aspect of Kerr's story (aside from wrestling of course).

The Rock did not blow me away, but he did do better than he probably should have. If he actually does do more drama roles after this, then I do believe he can become stronger. Blunt was amazing, but that's not really much of a surprise. She couldn't do a bad performance even if she tried.

The movie was not bad at all, but it probably should've been better. Thanks For Reading.

First Day Of 2024/2025 Awards Race

It is about that time of year again where Hollywood gives out its most prestigious awards to most of the time the least deserving. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna pay attention like always. But this year we will be shaking things up a little. Allow me to explain; Here's How This Works: Each year, I will have a target subject I'm rooting for this season. When the nominations for each award show are announced, I will do a small commentary on whether or not the subject has a chance of winning. However, this year instead of focusing on just the target, I will also be focusing on those I think are frontrunners in different categories for the season as a whole, whether I'm rooting for them or not.  I will most likely say a last minute thought the day before the award show. I will be tracking down all the way up to the big dogs: THE OSCARS. The Awards: We will be focusing on 5 awards; -The Golden Globes -The BAFTA's -The Critics Choice -The SAG Awards and Of Cour...

Red One & The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

I present to you, a Christmas Double Review. Red One centers on The Rock and Captain America trying to find J.K. Simmons (Santa) after he's been kidnapped. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever  is obviously based on the book of the same name and of course involves throwing a Christmas pageant with some of the worst kids in existence.  Red One This was a very strange movie. I don't hate it as much as others do, but I see why people hate it. I will admit there were some parts that were a little too ridiculous and I didn't laugh as much as I would've liked. Also, with all due respect to Kiernan Shipka, she was not a good casting for the main villain. Her performance just didn't work for me. She wasn't intimidating at all, and she still looks like a child. I'm sorry but I just could not take her seriously. But I also feel it had some heartwarming moments as well, particularly involving Chris Evans' character and his son. I wouldn't say this movie was good, bu...
