So this is my attempt at ranking the 5 albums of iconic girl-group TLC. I hope I was able to rank these as accurately as possible
#5: TLC
This was their last album, though the group is still active. The strong point of the album is that it has a throwback-like vibe to it as a whole. But unfortunately, the album doesn't really stand out in comparison to the rest of their library. Not that I expected it to when it came out, especially given how iconic TLC is. But at the same time, it would've been nice if the group went out with a bang and I don't feel that this album really did that. It also doesn't help that I didn't think the group needed a final album in the first place, but that's just my humble opinion.
#4: 3D
This is obviously the last album to feature deceased member Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes, though much of the album was finalized after the accident. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with the album. But there are 2 factors that place it this low. The first being the tragedy of this being Left-Eye’s last work with the group probably overshadowing the album and the second being that the rest of TLC’s library is just more iconic. I’m well aware that I might be making a mistake with this placement, and I hope this is a realistic placement for this album.
#3: Ooooooooh...On The TLC Tip
I put this one higher because you gotta respect it for introducing us to TLC. Also, Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg is a BOP! I mistakenly believed that this was a cover of The Temptations version though. But the album was a really fun and carefree way of introducing us to the group. Its youthful appeal works in a way that attracts a younger audience while it is also mature enough to appeal to older listeners as well. The next 2 albums are obviously just more iconic than this one. But at the same time, this was a good introduction for the trio.
#2: FanMail
It’s kind of a miracle this album turned out as successful as it did. There was a lot of drama during the long wait between this album and CrazySexyCool, particularly financial problems and other spectacles. Obviously this album includes the oh-so iconic No Scrubs. I’m not a huge fan of the song, but I won’t deny its impact and legacy (plus, the music video is AWESOME). It was really sweet of the girls to show love towards their fans through the title of this album. It indicates how much they cherish the fans, who clearly returned the favor via making this album a success. This obviously is the last album released in Left-Eye’s lifetime.
#1: CrazySexyCool
The album includes both Waterfalls and Creep, what do you expect? As impactful as FanMail is, CrazySexyCool pretty much cemented the group’s legacy. Creep may have been released first, but the second Waterfalls came out, TLC officially became legends. Also, the name of this album is freakin’ AWESOME. It works so well with the vibe these girls give off. I genuinely do not believe that TLC would be considered one of the GOATs in girls groups without this album (or Waterfalls). The impact it has over their careers is too big to deny and It was more than obvious that this would top the ranking.
