Ranking Rihanna Albums

I’m not a Rihanna fan, she just has a small enough amount of albums for me to do a ranking.  And there is a good amount of songs from her that I love. Also, this has nothing to do with her recent pregnancy. This list was made about a month ago. Anyway, let’s give this a shot.

#8: Music Of The Sun

The main reason Music Of The Sun is this low is because I never really cared for any of the songs on this album. Never really cared for Pon de Replay. The only reason I even know that song exists is because of the music video scene from that Bring It On movie with Hayden Panettiere attempting to be black. Hell, for years I referred to this song as "Mr. DJ" due to this movie (and of course the chorus). Looking back, the video itself was cheap as hell and the dancing was super lame. Obviously that's not the case with the actual video, but that's not gonna get this album any higher than this. Other than that, I couldn't care less about this album. That and something has to go in the bottom. In terms of the other songs, I barely even remember them.

#7: Talk That Talk

This one is low because there's only one song that I really like. And even that song is not fully hers. It's her and Calvin Harris. Obviously, the song I am referring to is We Found Love. It's a good song and very nostalgic at this point considering it's been a full decade since its even been released. As for the rest of the songs, I either barely know them or I really do not care for them at all. And she's done better than pretty much all of them, including We Found Love. That kind of says a lot given how huge the song was. Honestly, I would not be surprised if the album is only known for having We Found Love. And that's not a bad thing. But if that's the case, then this is as high as I can give it. It's only fair given Rihanna's library of memorable music.

#6: Rated R

Honestly, this only has one song I really know too. But the thing about Rated R is that it has Rude Boy on it. Not only is it catchy, but it also represents Rihanna's signature style better than We Found Love (which mostly represents Harris' signature style). When you hear We Found Love, you think Calvin Harris. But when you hear Rude Boy, it pretty much presents everything about Rihanna as well as who she is as an artist and her style of singing. That doesn't automatically make Rude Boy better, but it does make it more significant. Now like Rude Boy, that doesn't automatically make this album better than Talk That Talk, but just the inclusion of Rude Boy gives it more significance in her career in my opinion.

#5: A Girl Like Me

So now we're at album #2 for our 5th spot. Me liking or at least knowing only one song on the album will be a recurring thing on this list. But one of the reasons for that is because the one song I do know is REALLY important in her career to the point where just its inclusion on the album gives it significance (sometimes that's how the charts work as well). 3 letters; SOS. I bet you a nickel that there is not a single person on this planet who has not heard this song. And if there is, then they've been living under a rock. I know it's not fair to make a placement based on 1 song. But if you're like me and you don't particularly care for the artist as a person but still likes their music, that's pretty much the best you can do. The point is, SOS is one of her most important songs for a reason and for that, A Girl Like Me gets a high placement.

#4: Loud

I'm not really sure why Rihanna named this album "Loud". It seems quite simple and generic. But to be honest, Talk That Talk and A Girl Like Me are rather generic as well. With all this trash talk, why does this get a high placement on the list?  With that being said, it's this high because I have a soft spot for Only Girl (In The World). That song is AWESOME and possibly one of my favorites from Rihanna (more on my actual favorite later, Only Girl is still pretty high though). I also strangely like Man Down for some reason that I'm not quite sure I understand (yes I'm aware it might be about Chris Brown). Another reason this album gets a high placement is because this is obviously the first where I know (and or at least like) more than 1 song. Granted it's still only 2, but I'll still take the victory.

#3: Anti

This is obviously her most recent album. I HATE Work. It's annoying and repetitive. But unfortunately not only is the song HUGE, but it has her signature style so it's got significance despite the fact that it sucks. Love On The Brain is great (also possibly about Chris Brown). Vocally speaking, It's probably Rihanna's best work and a song that I would like to sing myself in the future. Needed Me is probably my favorite song off the album. For some reason I find that song really hardcore and I love the melody and the production of the song. This album contains at least 3 of the biggest (or at least notable/coverable) songs of the 2010s so I think it's more than obvious as to why this gets a high placement on this list. Its significance is undeniable and too big to ignore. But Work still sucks.

#2: Unapologetic

This contains 2 more of the biggest and most notable (and/or coverable) songs of the 2010s. One of them is one of my favorite Rihanna songs. Diamonds is easily one of her best and I absolutely ADORE that song. Do I even need to mention how huge the Stay is. I've heard this song covered so many times that it's gotten extremely annoying. Though I don't hate it. It's fine, but nothing amazing in my opinion. But for girls, it's probably one of the easiest songs to cover considering its low range. Both songs have become some of Rihanna's most iconic songs to date, so Unapologetic’s placement should not be much of a surprise. With that being said, while this album only has 2 notable songs, our EXTREMELY obvious #1 is packed with iconic songs.

#1: Good Girl Gone Bad

A good majority of songs on both the original and the reissue are not only huge, but they are total BOPS! Take A Bow, Don't Stop The Music, Disturbia, the list goes on. But, more importantly this contains what is in my opinion Rihanna's best song to date as well as the song that introduced me to her existence, Umbrella. This to me is her signature song and her best work period. This album also obviously represents Rihanna's change in image and became crucial to Rihanna's legacy in music. This was probably the most obvious choice for #1 and for good reason. It's got a lot of good and iconic songs, I somewhat literally had no choice but to give this the top spot. It is very well deserved and I'm not sure If Rihanna can top this even if she tried. So I highly suggest she doesn't.

Introduction

Bio My name is Naomi Marie Elidios Chadwick. I was born in San Diego, California, but I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I pretty much have a traditional family, which involves happily married parents, 1 younger sister, and an older brother. I was raised Christian, and I continue to practice Christianity to this day. This is not a spiritual blog but some of the content that I post is influenced by my faith. Every now and then I will post Christian content as well, just not always (except with Billboard ). The picture you see up above is me at the airport with my father after I graduated from AmeriCorps NCCC after 10 months of community service. In response I received a congressional award for community service. I've always been really proud of that. I was diagnosed with Asperger's (a form of Autism) around the age of 6, but I was not informed of my diagnosis until I was 12. I'm very into movies and television (animation especially), and pop culture as a whole, and I...

First Day Of 2024/2025 Awards Race

It is about that time of year again where Hollywood gives out its most prestigious awards to most of the time the least deserving. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna pay attention like always. But this year we will be shaking things up a little. Allow me to explain; Here's How This Works: Each year, I will have a target subject I'm rooting for this season. When the nominations for each award show are announced, I will do a small commentary on whether or not the subject has a chance of winning. However, this year instead of focusing on just the target, I will also be focusing on those I think are frontrunners in different categories for the season as a whole, whether I'm rooting for them or not.  I will most likely say a last minute thought the day before the award show. I will be tracking down all the way up to the big dogs: THE OSCARS. The Awards: We will be focusing on 5 awards; -The Golden Globes -The BAFTA's -The Critics Choice -The SAG Awards and Of Cour...
