My Top 10 Best Movies Of 2024 (Part 2)

So, now it’s time for the best list. This is obviously a list of what is in my opinion, the best movies of 2024. Before anything else, just a quick reminder that I have chosen not to review or rank the films Mary & Dune: Part Two  due to my conflicting feelings on them. So you won’t see either of those 2 on this list. If you would like an explanation for 1 or both movies, there are 2 links down below. If there’s an acclaimed movie you were expecting to see on this list that you didn’t see, check out my “Movies You Won’t See” post through the link down below.

#10: The Bikeriders

God-honest truth, the main reason I saw this movie is because of my soft spot for Austin Butler. Though definitely not the strongest movie, this was really good. Its strong points were the performances and the twists. While Austin wasn’t THE standout, he did do a really good job and truly embraced his inner James Dean. The standout however was indeed Tom Hardy as he embraced his inner Marlon Brando. Jodie Comer did great as well. Pretty much all of this I mentioned in my original review of the movie. In terms of the twist, I genuinely did not see Johnny’s murder coming. That was insane. In terms of weak points, it had a little bit of pacing issues. Just not to the point where it completely destroyed the movie. The film was also EXTREMELY brutal from start to finish. That might be the best thing about the movie.

#9: Gladiator 2

Look, is the writing the strongest, no. Is it a step down from the original, yes. But, I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy THE HELL out of this movie. The action sequences were AWESOME and at times very brutal. Most of the performances were good, just not great. That is with the exception of the LEGENDARY Denzel Washington, who pretty much stole the show (and Lost His Hand!!!). He’s my award show target this year for a reason. I guess another reason why I didn’t mind the somewhat smaller quality of this movie is because I’m not a huge fan of the original. The original is a good movie but (as I mentioned in the original review) me and my family only watched it because we knew Denzel Washington was in #2. With that being said, this movie for me was a good time and one of my favorites from last year.

#8: Twisters

Glen Powell had a really good year, as he had not only 1 but 2 good movies come out in 2024. Twisters was the second, and it was great. Powell was as charismatic as ever and his chemistry with Daisy Edgar-Jones was pretty good. Not as good as Hit Man (more on that next), but still decent enough. I mentioned in the last review that the visual and sound effects were amazing. I stand by that and I highly suggest the Oscars recognize them for the craft-like categories. Writing wise, the movie isn’t super special, hence the reason for its low placement on this list. But overall, it’s an enjoyable and fun movie. I still don’t care if this is scientifically accurate, I’m not a tornado expert (Hell, most people aren’t). I do see this as slightly superior to the original.

#7: Hit Man

Even more Glen Powell. In terms of sexiness, this is what Mea Culpa thought it was. I mentioned in the review that while the movie was risqué, it was also strangely sophisticated. The appeal of this movie came naturally to it while Mea Culpa was trying too hard. I was pleasantly surprised with Powell’s comedic versatility as well as his convincing interpretation of a nerdy teacher who didn’t realize how hot he was until he became a “Hit Man”. He basically went through an internal glow up (he didn’t really need an external one, this man is HOT!!!!!!). Him and Arjona really fed off each other’s energy. Powell also received a nomination from the Golden Globes for his performance and I personally think it is very well deserved. Hit Man is probably my favorite comedy of the year.

#6: Alien: Romulus

The irony that I watched the first 3 Alien movies for the first time last year as when I watched them, I was unaware that Alien: Romulus was coming out soon. The movie did try a little bit too hard with paying tribute to the original franchise, with the inclusion of Ash being the biggest example of that. But I would not call this movie a disappointment in any way. The action was incredibly thrilling and the visuals are indeed some of my favorites from last year. Like Twisters, I also think that this is a good contender for a craft category for the Oscars. And of course, there is no way I’m bringing up this movie without mentioning that ugly and extremely DISGUSTING twist. I can’t stress it enough, DO NOT Go To Space While You’re PREGNANT! That is unless you intend on giving birth to a Xenomorph/Human hybrid.

Original Review: https://naesnotlikeyou.blogspot.com/2024/08/that-was-absolutely-disgusting.html

#5: Inside Out 2

I think it was pretty obvious that I was very unsure about a sequel to Inside Out. Given the crappy year Disney had in 2023 (and their overreliance on nostalgia bate), it’s obvious as to why. But low and behold, Inside Out 2 was fantastic. The movie managed to do the impossible and add even more to an already well thought out story. And it came together so beautifully that it managed to make me cry twice. Not once, but TWICE!!!!!!! That’s the one thing this movie has over the original and another certain animated movie on this list. This is not better than the original movie nor is this the best animated movie of the year (more on that one later), but I am genuinely surprised and relieved that this movie turned out as good as it was. I wish I could say the same for Moana 2. But hey, they can’t all be homeruns.

#4: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Absolutely no one is going to have this movie on their best list but this girl. But I really loved this movie. It was incredibly sentimental and hilarious as well. I of course appreciate the spiritual element of this movie in terms of the true meaning of the Nativity story and why it had to happen. Ironically, this may have portrayed the Nativity scene better than another certain movie I saw last year. This doesn’t automatically mean I’ll give this movie favoritism, but it still deserves some recognition. The movie for me is the most underrated of the year, which is a real shame but not a surprise. But I adored this movie and If I managed to influence at least one person enough to try to check it out themselves (for Christmas anyway), then I'd be really happy to hear that. The movie deserves it.

Bronze Medal;
#3: The Wild Robot

So I already said that Inside Out 2, as great as it is, is not the best animated movie of the year. That honor belongs to The Wild Robot. This movie was gorgeous and easily the most emotional movie I had seen last year, despite the fact that I did not cry at this movie (I almost did though). The writing on this might possibly be stronger than Inside Out’s, but it’s hard to say because both of them are so strong. The animation for this movie on the other hand is obviously superior. It is incredible and might possibly be Dreamwork’s best work (coming from someone with Prince Of Egypt as one of her favorite movies of all time). Lupita Nyong'o without a doubt has the best voice performance of the year and probably one of the most unique I’ve ever heard. This movie is brilliant and if it doesn’t win the Oscar, I will be pissed off.

Silver Medal;
#2: Deadpool & Wolverine

Another movie Disney surprisingly didn’t butcher this year is Deadpool & Wolverine. This movie did exactly what it needed to do and more. It was funny, it was nostalgic (seriously, don’t get me started on the cameos), it was thrilling, it was even heartwarming at times. This is also without a doubt the most iconic movie of the year. The moment Deadpool started dancing and killing people to Bye Bye Bye, I realized the pure laugh-fest I was about to witness. I mentioned that I like the fight scene in the car in my original review, but I did not mention that incredible monologue from Hugh Jackman due to spoilers. But that was probably my favorite moment in the movie and the most well-acted scene in the movie. I’m convinced Reynolds pissed Jackman off somehow before they started filming. This movie was great from start to finish, but one movie was better.

Gold Medal;
#1: Wicked

Honestly, I kind of had no choice but to give Wicked the top spot as most critically acclaimed movies I saw last year didn’t wow me as much, others I saw made me uncomfortable, and those I didn’t see either rubbed me the wrong way or I had no access to them (my situation with The Brutalist). So I basically gave Wicked #1 by default. Not that it takes away from the movie, the film was fantastic. It was visually gorgeous, the songs were sung well, it stayed true to the musical, and the performances (Grande especially) were way better than they should’ve been. I also really appreciated the cameos from Chenoweth and Menzel. While Deadpool & Wolverine is the most iconic movie of the year, Wicked comes at a very close second. Particularly the Defying Gravity scene, which thankfully Erivo did not screw up. This movie was amazing and (whether I wanted it to be or not) is the best movie I saw last year. Part 2 Better Not Suck!

American Idol 2025 Thoughts: Day 1

  American Idol  has officially reached its live shows so that means it's time to start the commentaries. For those of you who didn't track these last year, here's an explanation; I will be saying my thoughts on the contestants and their performances. In typical 'me' fashion, I will rank each performance to #1. But unlike my normal lists, this will be from worst to best.  This will be starting the following week as today is just an introduction. Our Top 24 has been chosen and they are as follows;     Canaan James Hill (Platinum)             Gabby Simone  Zaylie Windsor                         Mattie Pruitt  Thunderstorm Artis                  Drew Ryn  Che                                     ...

Introduction

Bio My name is Naomi Marie Elidios Chadwick. I was born in San Diego, California, but I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I pretty much have a traditional family, which involves happily married parents, 1 younger sister, and an older brother. I was raised Christian, and I continue to practice Christianity to this day. This is not a spiritual blog but some of the content that I post is influenced by my faith. Every now and then I will post Christian content as well, just not always (except with Billboard ). The picture you see up above is me at the airport with my father after I graduated from AmeriCorps NCCC after 10 months of community service. In response I received a congressional award for community service. I've always been really proud of that. I was diagnosed with Asperger's (a form of Autism) around the age of 6, but I was not informed of my diagnosis until I was 12. I'm very into movies and television (animation especially), and pop culture as a whole, and I...

First Day Of 2024/2025 Awards Race

  It is about that time of year again where Hollywood gives out its most prestigious awards to most of the time the least deserving. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna pay attention like always. But this year we will be shaking things up a little. Allow me to explain; Here's How This Works: Each year, I will have a target subject I'm rooting for this season. When the nominations for each award show are announced, I will do a small commentary on whether or not the subject has a chance of winning. However, this year instead of focusing on just the target, I will also be focusing on those I think are frontrunners in different categories for the season as a whole, whether I'm rooting for them or not.  I will most likely say a last minute thought the day before the award show. I will be tracking down all the way up to the big dogs: THE OSCARS. The Awards: We will be focusing on 5 awards; -The Golden Globes -The BAFTA's -The Critics Choice -The SAG Awards and Of Cour...
