Decent Enough, But Mediocre

I've said it before and I'll say it again; Moana did not need a sequel. And the sad part about this movie is that it was originally supposed to be a TV show, and now it's just a way for Disney to make an easy billion dollars. In their defense, Disney probably needs this desperately considering the how horrible last year was for them (and they're slowly making up for it with Inside Out & Deadpool). In this movie, Moana has to once again save the world from another curse, but this time she brought friends. Oh yeah, and Maui's back.

This movie is just the same story from the original. The only difference is that our titular character has a crew with her and a little sister (who's barely in the movie). That's easily the film's biggest flaw. The new characters (with the exception of one) are nothing special, in fact they might be even more generic than the characters in Raya. They weren't annoying, there was actually a moment where I felt sympathy for one of the characters. But they were just bland, unmemorable, and didn't need to be there. I think Matangi was wasted. I hoped we would get this full blown new female villain, but what we did get was a major disappointment. The only new character I cared for was Simea (the sister). She was cute.

Most of the music was mediocre. Lin Manuel Miranda, who wrote the music for the first one was absent for this one, and it shows. Most of the music in this movie was trying a little bit too hard and got rather over the top. I will admit to liking at least 2 of the songs, being Beyond (which I think has a decent chance of earning an Oscar nomination) and Can I Get A Chee Hoo

As for the positives, the animation was gorgeous no doubt. I appreciate that this movie is slightly darker than the original despite that its the same story. And I like that the Kakamora somewhat got a "redemption" arch.

I don't hate this movie as much as others. But it without a doubt should not exist. I guess not everything can be as successful as Inside Out 2. Thanks for reading.

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
