Dumbest Movie Of The Year

Look, I grew up with Tyler Perry. Though laughing riots (especially when it involves Madea) and with decent spiritual lessons, his plays were often between the lines of so-so and bad. Same goes with his movies, and both sides have gotten worse as I got older. Divorce In The Black is yet another one of his "masterpieces" about an unhappy woman in a crappy marriage. Then all of a sudden, her husband decides to get a divorce.

One of the biggest complaints I keep hearing about this movie as well as most Tyler Perry movies is that it's the same story over and over again. Normally centering on a black woman either in an abusive relationship, struggling financially, or any other trauma Perry can think of. The problem with that is Perry's too prideful to hire writers for his productions and insists on doing the work himself, and it's painfully obvious in this movie (as well as others). Most of the time throughout the movie, the characters are just having the same conversation about how crappy Meagan Good's husband (and pretty much his entire family) is over and over again every 2 seconds. It also doesn't help that the dialogue is incredibly lame and cheesy. So many of the characters made decisions that were either over the top (watch the funeral scene), unrealistic, or just plain stupid. The main protagonist was especially guilty of this (along with a lot of cringey dialogue) as during the final resolution she had possibly the dumbest plan I've ever witnessed in a movie.

The acting was all over the place. Sometimes extremely overdramatic while other times incredibly bland. And the fight scenes as well as moments that were supposed to be intense were just awkward. Meagan Good has the same issue as Jessica Alba (which I mentioned in my review for Trigger Warning), she's a bland actress. And while the dialogue alone was bad enough, Good made it even worse with her wooden acting. She had this extremely horrible line that was supposed to make her seem like this hardcore survivor, but instead she just came of as lame and pathetic. Cory Hardrict (the husband) and Debbi Morgan (Good's mother) were probably the better actors in this movie.

Speaking of Debbi Morgan, the only good scene in this movie was this moment between Morgan and Good. That was the one time Good's acting was.......well good. The chemistry between the two was very poignant and overall it was a very sweet scene. I just wish it wasn't wasted on such a horrible movie.

This movie is so bad that it could possibly give Madame Web a run for it's money (yeah, I said it). And to Tyler Perry; instead of throwing a hissy fit towards the "high brows" for dissing your movie, why don't you just except that you suck at your job like a man. Thanks For Reading.

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
