Similar Issues With The Color Purple Except.....................

I did mention in the January releases post that I would probably see the Mean Girls remake. This is basically the original movie except the characters sing at random times. In my humble opinion, the original movie did not need to be adapted into a Broadway musical (though my sister highly recommends the musical), and the Broadway musical did not need to be adapted back into a movie. But here we are.

As the title says, this has similar issues with The Color Purple. However, this was not as all over the place as The Color Purple. But this does have a little bit of pacing issues and some parts of the movie that should've been hilarious or impactful was not as strong. The vocals were fine, but that's pretty much it. Angourie Rice's vocals weren't terrible, but they were my least favorite and is pretty much a good representation of why I hate it when non-singers are involved in a musical. It's not always bad (as I did like Timothée Chalamet in Wonka and Bradley Cooper surprised me in A Star Is Born), but still annoying.

As for the good, the few parts that were done decently was Karen Shetty and Damian's line "She Doesn't Even Go Here". I wouldn't say I'm a fan of Jaquel Spivey, but his delivery of that line had me rolling on the floor and was probably my favorite part of the movie. Overall, Spivey was entertaining enough. Karen was portrayed by newcomer Avantika, and she did a very good job. She's not better than Amanda Seyfried, but she really embodied the character and embraced her stupidity. She was probably my favorite in the movie and really stood out. Renee Rapp was a good Regina, but she didn't really standout to me like Avantika.

Also, Lindsay Lohan's cameo was nice.

This movie was not bad, but there was no reason for it's existence. Thanks for reading.

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
