The Holdovers & The Burial

So today I'm going to do 2 reviews in 1 post. Mainly because I saw both of these movies so closely together. Last week I saw The Holdovers. The movie centers a boarding school teacher who is daunted the unfortunate task of watching a several kids who are unable to go home (or anywhere) for Christmas. He's also accompanied by the head cook, who also happens to be grieving her son. I watched The Burial  the day after, which centers on Jeremiah O'Keefe's 1995 lawsuit against the Loewen funeral company, for which he hires personal injury lawyer Willie E. Gary to represent him in the case.

The Holdovers

I found this movie to be very sweet. And while it's a comedy-drama, it had some moments that were HILARIOUS. The dynamic between the 3 lead characters was both very well written and very well acted (Paul Giamatti, Dominic Sessa, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph). I wouldn't go as far as saying a bond was created between the 3 by the end of the movie, but still enough care and an unlikely respect for one another. I wouldn't say it was amazing, but it was still really sweet (when the characters aren't bickering and cursing anyway 😂).

The Burial

This movie was pretty good as well. For me the best parts of the movie are pretty much all of the court scenes as they were very well acted and EXTREMELY intense, which is everything a legal drama should be. The dynamic between Gary & O'Keefe was very well acted by Jamie Foxx & Tommy Lee Jones. I'll also give a shout out to Jurnee Smollett and Bill Camp, they also did a good job. Like The Holdovers, this movie also has its funny moments, mainly involving Foxx's character. Though can someone please tell Jones to NEVER sing Tony! Toni! Tone! ever again?

I do not know which one I like more yet. I need to make that decision before I make by Best of  list. Thanks For Reading

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...

What The Hell Did I Even Watch!?!🤣

I think ever since Lady Gaga's performance in A Star Is Born , musicians have been trying to jump in on the band wagon. The Weekend is one of those musicians who's trying, and failing miserably. First he tried with The Idol , and we all saw how that crashed and burned. And now he decided to turn his newest album Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Oh yeah, Jenna Ortega and  Barry Keoghan are in this too.  The Weekend is obviously on this vendetta to prove to people that he can act, and it's getting kind of pathetic. The movie is just.....not good.  There's barely even a plot, it's just an elongated music video that involves The Weekend crying too much. Now, I will give him some credit for actually trying this time (unlike in The Idol ). But unfortunately, instead of coming off as a troubled musician, this felt like I was watching one of the 3-5 year-olds my mom deals with at her job. I'm aware that this movie was in...
