Leo & Wonka

So here we have another double review, mainly because I have 2 movies to go plus the year is almost over and I don't have time to wait a week (or sooner) to review a movie before it's over. I saw Leo a little over a month ago. It's about a class lizard who's apparently about to die and attempts to spend the remainder of his life in the wild, only to be intrigued by the class and help them with their problems. I saw Wonka yesterday. It of course centers on the early life of the iconic Willy Wonka and how he became the person we all know and love.

Leo

Leo was too cute. While the story isn't super creative, it is interesting enough. It has it's funny moments but it also has some incredibly sweet and tender moments. The bond Leo built with the kids is surprisingly very well developed and none of them felt more favored than the other. This movie is a musical, and the fact that this movie has more memorable songs than Wish says a lot about how pathetic Wish is. The singing wasn't as good as Wish, but this isn't the type of musical that needed amazing vocals. The animation is pretty simple, especially in comparison to other animated movies this year (for example: Ninja Turtles, and of course Across The Spider-Verse). But it was still decent enough.

Wonka

I really enjoyed Wonka. Easily the best thing about it was it's nostalgia. It was obvious that it respected the original (1971) and truly expanded the story as well as add it's own story to it. But I was also surprised that it got dark at some moments of the movie (kind of like 1971's). This is also a musical, and the songs were cute (but not super memorable). But I like that it included some of the original's songs as well. The singing wasn't great, but decent enough (and this is coming from someone who hates it when people who aren't natural singers are in a musical). In terms of flaws, there was slightly too much cgi in some areas and Calah Lane's performance wasn't the greatest. Chalamet on the other hand was great.

American Idol 2026 Day 1: Introduction

With the Top 20 Officially decided, the time has come for my annual Idol rankings and commentaries. Quick little explanation; I will be saying my thoughts on the contestants and their performances. So.......The Bride😕

So I was completely off-track with The Bride . Did not expect the film to crash and burn as hard as it did with both critics AND the box-office. After getting murdered, a woman by the name of Ida is brought back to life with the intention of being a companion to the oh-so iconic Frankenstein. And together they wreck havoc. Like Wuthering Heights , the movie wasn't terrible but it had a lot of problems. The biggest issue with this film is that it tries way too hard to be edgy and it just doesn't work. It wanted to be this hardcore feminist take on Frankenstein , but it just felt convoluted and slightly underwritten. It had this plotline involving Ida causing some revolution for women and did pretty much nothing with it until the last minute. It was kind of a let down. The best thing about the movie however was the performances and chemistry between Buckley and Christian Bale. I thought they were strangely endearing, and this might be a better love story than Wuthering Heights  (...

Last Minute Music Reviews

So here are some last minute reviews of songs that I've heard over the past few months that did not reach #1;   Where Is My Husband - Raye This is incredibly fun and strangely catchy. While this is not officially a jazz song, this obviously has jazz influence and it works very well for this song. I will go ahead and admit that this is my introduction to Raya, I have not listened to Oscar Winning Tears . So far, I'm intrigued.    Midnight Sun - Zara Larsson This song is kind of AWESOME. Not only is the production GORGEOUS, but it also has a very nice hook that goes smoothly with Larsson's voice. My sister actually recommended this song to me and I see why. Larsson does currently have a Grammy nomination for this. She's gonna lose, but I'm glad this song got recognized. If my sister see's this, thank you.   How It's Done - Huntrix (From KPop Demon Hunters ) I have been meaning to review this for a while, but I kept getting lazy. Like Golden , this song has g...
