This is a lists of male singers that I feel don’t get enough credit. Not necessarily in their music, but in consideration of their vocal abilities. I will only be focusing on secular artist as gospel and Broadway singers could easily take over this entire list. I also will not be making a female list as this was inspired by one created by Msmojo. If you would to see it, there's a link down below this post.
#10: Joe Jonas
This might be my 8-year old self talking, but Joe Jonas has a really nice voice. It has a raspiness to it that's just infectious. I feel like a lot of people focus more on Nick's voice. And don't get me wrong, Nick is a great singer, but Joe's voice is often overlooked. His failed solo album also doesn't help. Yes, Joe leads a majority of JoBro songs, but I feel like people are more attached to them for catchiness rather than his voice (that and all of them are attractive). I will also mention that most (if not all) of their songs are led by Joe and Nick. DNCE helps Joe to a small extent, but again "Cake By The Ocean '' is very catchy. It would be nice if Joe's voice gets a little more attention.
#9: CeeLo Green
CeeLo Green is mostly known for both his work with Gnarls Barkley and his song "Forget You" (I'm not using the original title). I've always liked his voice as It had enough soul to work for "Crazy" and enough personality to sell "Forget You". And giving how sassy the latter song is (with or without the curse words), that is EXTREMELY necessary. But I will also note that his sassiness will probably cause people to overlook his voice, which is a real shame. It's not the most amazing but it's still great either way. He's not really doing much lately which I find slightly concerning. But either way, I do wish him the best, and I would love to hear his voice again. I guess we'll see what happens.
#8: James Bay
James Bay is mostly known for his song "Let It Go", who's remixed version made it to the radio. Strangely, I like the original better than the remix, which is rare for me when it comes to music. The only other song I know and/or even listen to by Bay is "Hold Back The River ''. I love that song. I also ADORE Bay's voice. I feel like it has natural soulfulness to it, like he doesn't even have to try, it's just there. Not a lot of people have that, as most people (like Christina Aguilera) try too hard to be soulful. Bay doesn't really get a lot of attention, which is a real shame. I know I'm probably not the best person to say this since I only know 2 of his songs, but at the same time, that voice does not deserve to go to waste.
#7: Labrinth
Labrinth is actually doing pretty good for himself. I was introduced to him through his song "Jealous”, and I love that song. Nowadays, he's mostly known for his work as the musical composer for HBO's controversial phenomenon "Euphoria". As much as it kills me to say this, I really like the music of "Euphoria". Not all the songs, but some of the songs are very good and all of them are unique in their own way. Labrinth does sing in a majority of the songs. I Do find his voice unique in a way as well, which is probably why it works so well with "Euphoria". Labrinth is talented in many ways, but his voice needs more attention. If he has to get away from "Euphoria" in order for that to work, then so be it.
#6: Trey Songz
I don't always care for Trey Songz. I don't hate him or anything and I’m aware of some controversies he’s involved in, but I don’t like him enough to care and I don’t dislike him enough to despise him . But I do think he's a good singer, way better than I expected. His voice has a distinctness to it that just works. Sometimes it can get a little bit whiny, but that's not always a bad thing. The problem is sometimes his voice is hidden behind his sex appeal. It's not that he doesn't show it off at times, It's just that those watching him perform (mostly women) pay more attention to the fact that he's attractive, not to his voice. Like James Bay, there are very few Trey's songs that I know, and even fewer that I listen to, so I'm probably not the best person to judge. But from what I have heard, Songz is very talented (but also stupid).
#5: Max Schneider
If you watched Nickelodeon during the 2010s, you probably remember Max Schneider from either the Nickelodeon movie "Rags" or the short lived series "How To Rock". Several years later, Schneider released the song "Lights Down Low" and sometime after "Love Me Less" was released. Max is a very good singer, as we immediately see in "Rags". Though I feel sometimes he hides behind tricks such as doing falsetto, especially in "Lights Down Low". That's a real shame, cause he really doesn't need to do that. I'm not saying he doesn't do them well, it's just that he's talented enough without going falsetto. He doesn't need to do that all the time. Either way, I wish him the best.
#4: Tyler Joseph
I am very familiar with Tyler Joseph as he is the lead singer of one of my favorite bands Twenty One Pilots. The group crossed over with hit songs “Stressed Out", "Heathens", and "Ride". Due to Joseph either rapping for a majority of their songs and/or singing in a slightly monotone fashion, his vocal abilities are often overlooked. If you watch either some of his videos or listen to his earlier stuff, you will see and hear that his voice is amazing, and goes away. I'm not saying that he doesn't have great vocal moments now, it's just that it's more dominant in his early years than now. Tyler also surprisingly has a high range, which you will definitely hear in "Ride". I don't mind his rapping, but I would love to hear him go all out more often with his singing.
Mark my words, Chris Daughtry can SANG! He's in my humble opinion one of the best male vocalists to come out of "American Idol". There's a certain rawness to his voice that feels natural, and he surprisingly has a very high range for a male. While he is doing fine for himself, I wish his voice was acknowledged more often. One of the most recent times his talent was acknowledged was on "The Masked Singer", where he competed and nearly won as the "Rottweiler". He wiped the floor on the entire competition and showed everyone how it's done with that amazing voice. Ultimately, he came in second place to Wayne Brady (which was probably a ripoff). But he put up a good fight. Salute to him.
#2: Brendon Urie
I'm not the biggest fan of Panic! In fact, I think almost everyone involved with the so-called group is mentally insane. And Brendon Urie is the most insane of them all. But I won't deny that the dude can SANG. And like my last pick, he also has a higher range than most male singers. One of the best examples of this is Panic!'s cover of Frozen 2's "Into The Unknown". I was super impressed that he did it in the same key as the original. The only reason he's not #1 is because Panic! kinda had a resurgence with "High Hopes". To be honest, Urie just barely stayed on the list as I nearly took him off due to this. But in the end, I just got lazy (same goes for Trey Songz). So today, he's #2.
So like always, here are some honorable mentions............................
James Arthur
Shay Mooney
-He's fine. That's it -One half of Dan + Shay
Trevor Jackson
Luke James
-Arrogant but talented -Also fine. That's it
#1: Patrick Stump
If you're a fan of Fall Out Boy, you're probably very familiar with my #1 as he serves as the lead singer of the group. I don't consider myself a huge fan of them, but some of their songs are AWESOME, with "Centuries" serving as my favorite. One of the things that drew me to the band is Stump's voice, which is in many ways your typical "rocker" voice, but still has a enough spice to appeal to others outside of rock (like me and my dad). There are many great voices in rock and Stump is one of them. But do feel like it's not acknowledged enough (let alone at all). Would I say he's the best singer on this list, no (tie between Daughtry and Urie), but he is the one I feel needs (and deserves) the most attention out of all the men on this list. So congrats Stump, you're #1.
Like always, there's a link to the google slides down below as well as the female list I mentioned earlier. Thanks for reading.
