Top 10 New Girl Characters

So I semi-recently watched the TV comedy “New Girl” for the first time, and to my surprise, I really liked it. Not that I was expecting to hate it or anything, I just didn’t think I would enjoy it as much. Instead of a commentary on the show, I’ll do a top 10 list on the characters, mainly because there’s one in particular that I was very impressed by.

#10: Sam Sweeney

Sam is the one of Jess' love interests that at some point could not deal with her. His relationship with Jess was a hilarious and often eventful one  (which to my understanding was often her or Nick's fault, sort of for Nick). While Sam was initially slightly spacey, to me the longer he was around Jess, the more unhinged and uptight he became. It also did not help that he had a small rivalry with Nick for a short while (and for good reason). Other than that, I wouldn't say there was much to Sam. I basically see him as the 3rd most dominant of Jess' love interests.  And he was definitely entertaining, especially when Jess got on his nerves, something I unfortunately relate to him on.

#9: Robby McFerrin

If my memory is correct, I believe Robby was the last of Jess' love interests before her and Nick were sealed. He is also an unfortunate victim of Jess' shenanigans with the biggest example of that being the gym incident. While I didn't particularly care for Robby, he was a relatively nice guy to the point where Nick claimed that he was too good for Jess (he's probably not wrong). Ultimately, what ended their relationship is the somewhat disturbing discovery that they are 3rd cousins. Obviously this isn't the first 'kissin’ cousin' situation we've seen on television, but it's still gross regardless. In the end, Robby was entertaining enough and had a dominant enough role to earn a spot on the list.

#8: Aly Nelson

To be honest, there's not really much to Aly, hence the reason she's ranked relatively low on this list. She probably should be lower than Sam and Robby, but what ultimately put her higher is her relationship with Winston which was relatively cute. She initially did not want to be friends with Winston due a past situation with a partner. But in the end, they end up falling for each other, get hitched and start a family. Her and Winston's relationship isn't super memorable, but it was still sweet and likable enough. But again, there isn't much to either the relationship or her character, so she gets a lower ranking. So overall I don't really have anything against Aly.

#7: Reagan Lucas

While Robby was Jess' last love interest, Reagan was Nick's. Portrayed by Megan Fox (one of the few times I find her enjoyable), Reagan temporarily stayed with the group while Jess was on jury duty (to cover up for Deschanel's pregnancy during the show's run). Reagan's no-nonsense personality somehow came off as not bland, just natural. It also helps that she's friendly enough. However, her lack of emotion is also what results in her and Nick's break-up at the end of season 6. It's not out of not caring, she's just naturally a nonchalant person. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's just part of who she is. Something about that is strangely endearing (again that's surprising considering this is Megan Fox).

#6: Coach

Coach was in and out throughout the series to the point where I was wondering what the Hell was going on with Damon Wayans Jr. (the inferior one of the Wayans family). Coach was basically in Winston's position in the Pilot episode before he took over. The athlete turned personal trainer is portrayed as cocky yet awkward and still likable enough. Coach being in and out throughout the series is ultimately what kept him from having more fleshed out development in comparison to the other leads. But overall I did find him funny and entertaining. Though out of the 2 characters I've actually seen from Wayans Jr., this one is the inferior one (the other being Wasabi from "Big Hero 6", and he’s funny as HELL).

#5: CeCe Parekh

CeCe is pretty much the definition of a supportive but overprotective friend. The girl is always there for Jess when she needs it and will literally HURT anyone who serves as a threat to her in any way. CeCe had little to no unlikeable moments throughout the entire show. In fact, the only time she was unlikeable was when she tried to get Jess (who was in a relationship with Nick) to sleep with someone assuming Nick is doing the same. Even there, she quickly realized she was being immature and apologized for her actions. But I will acknowledge that she was healing from Schmidt's betrayal. The girl is flawed, but at least she owns up to them, and not a lot of people are mature enough to do that.

#4: Winston Bishop

Winston is probably one of the goofiest characters on the show. While he is somewhat relatively more sane than Nick and Schmidt, that's by a grain of salt, he's still a moron regardless. At the start of the series, Winston was kind of trying to figure out what to do with himself. Then he set his goal on becoming a cop, and I think it's safe to say that we were really happy for him to not only find his passion, but meet the love of his life as a result as well. Winston at his best is either when he's trying (and normally failing) to pull a prank, his relationship with Ally, or his unhealthy obsession with his pet cat Ferguson, whom he ironically stole from an ex-girlfriend. Why he felt the need to steal it, I don't know.

#3: Jessica Day

Jessica Day is to me Quinta Brunson's character from "Abbott Elementary" if she were Caucasian and slightly less pathetic to an extent. Though both I find extremely annoying as HELL, as both are overly positive and try to somewhat push friendship on to other characters. So why is Jess so high? Cause like Brunson's character, she overall has pure intentions and sometimes brings out the best in people. That was pretty much the case with every single one of her new roommates, especially Nick for obvious reasons. Is Jess perfect, no, not even a little. But you still can't help but root for her, which is pretty much what gets her a high spot (that and she's the main protagonist). I see why she's adorkable now.

#2: Nick Miller

I'm gonna be honest, originally the only reason I had a soft spot for Jake Johnson is because he's Peter B. Parker in the "Spider-Verse '' franchise. Now I have another reason to favor him as Nick Miller is hilarious.  He's a hot mess in every way possible and I love that. While he can be a little immature at times, he's also a sweetheart. And he truly did grow throughout the series and I think it's safe to say that we were all extremely happy for him when his book blew up. I of course will not talk about Nick without mentioning his sweet relationship with Jess. Jess truly did bring out the best in him, even during her annoying moments. While I wouldn't say Nick went through the most growth out of the characters (that honor belongs to my #1), he went through a pretty good amount and his arc was decently done.

Before I reveal my favorite character, here are a few honorable mentions.............

 Tran                                                              Bearclaw
-Didn't talk but had a lot to say                                                               -This guy was a moron

Russell Schiller                                             Bob & Joan Day
-He's fine, that's it                                                                                 -I see where Jess gets her weirdness

#1: Schmidt

Schmidt is a FANTASTIC character. When we first meet him, he's a womanizing jerk, but still likable enough. And it was obvious that he cared about his friends very deeply, especially Nick, as the 2 were on my "Male Friendships'' list.  As we got deeper into the series, this side of Schmidt became more dominant to the point where he's a different person. And while he had his issues with CeCe (mainly him cheating), there's no denying he loves CeCe with all his heart and is willing to do pretty much anything for her. I was very impressed by his growth throughout the series. Yes there were times when he was terrible, but he really did better himself and even in his terrible moments, it was hard not to love him. Schmidt is just awesome from start to finish and is in my opinion the best character of the series.

Introduction

Bio My name is Naomi Marie Elidios Chadwick. I was born in San Diego, California, but I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I pretty much have a traditional family, which involves happily married parents, 1 younger sister, and an older brother. I was raised Christian, and I continue to practice Christianity to this day. This is not a spiritual blog but some of the content that I post is influenced by my faith. Every now and then I will post Christian content as well, just not always (except with Billboard ). The picture you see up above is me at the airport with my father after I graduated from AmeriCorps NCCC after 10 months of community service. In response I received a congressional award for community service. I've always been really proud of that. I was diagnosed with Asperger's (a form of Autism) around the age of 6, but I was not informed of my diagnosis until I was 12. I'm very into movies and television (animation especially), and pop culture as a whole, and I...

First Day Of 2024/2025 Awards Race

It is about that time of year again where Hollywood gives out its most prestigious awards to most of the time the least deserving. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna pay attention like always. But this year we will be shaking things up a little. Allow me to explain; Here's How This Works: Each year, I will have a target subject I'm rooting for this season. When the nominations for each award show are announced, I will do a small commentary on whether or not the subject has a chance of winning. However, this year instead of focusing on just the target, I will also be focusing on those I think are frontrunners in different categories for the season as a whole, whether I'm rooting for them or not.  I will most likely say a last minute thought the day before the award show. I will be tracking down all the way up to the big dogs: THE OSCARS. The Awards: We will be focusing on 5 awards; -The Golden Globes -The BAFTA's -The Critics Choice -The SAG Awards and Of Cour...
