Jax Teller serves as the main character of the FX series, and I feel like he is very misunderstood. I mentioned in the review that I would express my thoughts on Jax, so here they are.
Jax originally served as the Vice President of SAMCRO before becoming President after Clay's downfall. His initial intention was to "change" the club for the better, though it eventually reached a point where he tried to leave the club. The show also reaches a point where Jax just gives into his inner demons and becomes a colder person. I feel like no one gave enough room for a change. And the few people who did, still didn't make it easy for Jax to change. Literally everything he did, somebody complained about it.
It also did not help that he was surrounded by so many voices. If Clay wanted this, Opie wanted that. If Gemma wanted this, Tara wanted that. If Tigs wanted this, Bobby wanted that. It was just ridiculous. Chibs was probably the least problematic person of the club and one of the few people who didn't constantly hate on Jax. The thing with Opie was that he wasn't really problematic, he was just very tragic. And it was his constant misfortune that caused him to act irrationally, which not only is unfair to him, but to Jax. Did anyone at all think it was easy for him to watch his best friend suffer, cause Lord knows it wasn't. Even the fans won't give Jax a break (with the exception of me and my family), as the some unnecessary hate he gets from fans (mostly regarding him and Tara, more on that later) is the reason this post is being made.
Another problem is that very few people in SAMCRO understood that Jax is an adult an he makes his own decisions. The only time they're okay with that is when it benefits them. But almost everyone was salty towards him when he announced his intention to leave SAMCRO. Gemma in particular was a crybaby about this . I understand if she believes he needs her, and honestly she's right. But she needs him too. They only difference is that while he needs his mother, she just wants a successor. No one respected that Jax was his own person with his own desires. And the one person who did, didn't make it easy for him either.
Speaking of which, let's have a little conversation about Tara. I don't see Tara as a horrible person (not even a little), but I do think she's victimized for the wrong reasons. What she needed to understand was that she is not his only influence and that he literally grew up in this environment, so leaving it (as well as getting what she wants out of him) was not gonna be easy. What both she and fans needed to understand was that getting into this life involved full dedication and once you're in, it's hard to get out. She was given that warning many times, and she choose to stay. But the second things don't go the way she'd hoped (mainly the Otto incident), she wants out. The fans (accept for me and my family) want to hate on Jax, claiming he either didn't sympathize with her or that he didn't deserve her. Was he perfect? No (he did cheat on her), but as I said earlier he gave her many chances and many warnings to get the HELL out. It was her choice to stay. Leaving is not as easy as saying 'See Ya'. She should've known that or at least thought about it. Jax LOVED Tara, BAD. And he did the best he could. No one has a right to deny that, not even her. And she loved him to, they only way she knew how. Neither of them were perfect, and that needs to be acknowledged. Also, taking his kids (when one of them is not even hers) was a very stupid idea. Don't get me wrong, kids and SAMCRO is a very dangerous combination as it did completely mess up Abel (and Jax). But taking them out the blue like that was ridiculous.
I love these characters (except for Clay). But these flaws that I have called out about them really pissed me off and they needed to be addressed. The last thing I would like to say is that while I wanted Jax to get out too, I know that he had no chance of making it in life outside of SAMCRO. He probably knew that too, which is really sad and I wish that wasn't the case. In a way, he was kind of a victim himself.
Once again, there's a link to my review down below and on my Facebook share. Thanks for reading.
