So remember my best list 2 months ago? Now it’s time for the worst list. Like the previous list, only one portrayal per heroine.
#10: Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk- She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
Let me make myself clear, I have nothing against Tatiana Maslany as a whole. She's a great actress and very talented. But there is nothing good about her as Jennifer Walters. She represents everything wrong with current female characters as a whole, an arrogant feminist with a vendetta against the opposite sex for no good reason. I DESPISE those types of characters and the fact that the series made her out to be the "good guy" and the haters as the "bad guy" was a jerkface move. It also doesn't help that the CGI used for her was not as polished as it could be. Groot almost always looks perfect, so there's no excuse for this. Maybe Marvel knew people would hate this so they did this on purpose.
#9: Kate Mara as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman- Fant4stic Four
I personally love the original 2 "Fantastic Four" movies and thought Jessica Alba did fine as Sue Storm. The sad thing about the 2015 film was that the trailer looked kind of promising, but that was nothing but a con. Like Maslany, I've got nothing against Kate Mara. But she kind of came off as bland and boring. There just wasn't enough spark in her performance to make it memorable. Alba wasn't amazing but she was still decent. But Mara could've tried at least a little bit harder and looked like she wanted to be there. But then again, I'm not really sure if anyone in that cast really wanted to be there.
Alicia Silverstone is actually a really good actress. And I'm not judging that based on "Clueless" as I've never seen it, this is mainly based on another movie that I prefer not to disclose. So with that being said, what the HELL went wrong with "Batman & Robin" (well literally everything, but that's not the point). To be honest, Silverstone might be a bigger victim of miscasting than actual bad acting because her as Barbara Wilson (real name: Barbara Gordon) just did not feel right. It's not her fault, the people behind this movie were just really bad at their jobs. I mean they did cast George Clooney as Batman, which is a whole other level of stupid.
I feel like Becky G had a little bit more pressure on her than Naomi Scott did. The reason I feel that is because the original actress for Trini Kwan, Thuy Trang, was killed in a car accident almost a week before 9/11. So it was most likely important to prove to her fans that G could succeed Trang's legacy and portray Kwan respectfully while adding something new to it. Considering the movie did not receive the greatest reviews, It would be fair to say that while she was not horrible, she didn't really meet the standards for the character either. Don't get me wrong, she probably tried her best, but it's just not as memorable as the original actress. Though I'm probably not the best person to judge considering I hate "Power Rangers".
"Red Sonja" is one of those movies that you can tell is bad by just simply looking at it. I feel like it was less of an actual movie and more of a show-off of how gorgeous Brigitte Nielsen is and how buff Arnold Schwarzenegger is. I feel like she relied more on her looks than actually putting an effort in acting. To be completely honest, there doesn’t seem to be much to Red Sonja as a character. But at the same time, it wouldn’t hurt to at least try adding some type of personality to a bland character. That should’ve been an easy job for Nielsen as this would’ve been a perfect opportunity to bring something more to this character. But this was what we received instead. But then again, I also did not realize that this was her first movie period. So of course she wasn’t the greatest.
As someone who has never seen “Mad Men”, “X-Men: First Class” (which is a fantastic movie) was my introduction to January Jones, and it was not a good one. The movie itself was amazing with the acting (particularly Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy) being one the best parts of it, but that’s not the case with Jones. Not only did her acting come off as bland, but I feel like Frost was there solely for being eye-candy. Jennifer Lawrence’s character (Mystique) was eye-candy, but she also had an arch and a motivation that made her compelling. Frost in my opinion had nothing but her powers and her looks. So it was probably already hard enough for Jones to bring something to Frost anyway and stand on her own in an already powerhouse cast. That’s gotta suck for her.
I’ve got nothing against Ruby Rose, but she is a horrible actress. I understand the motive with choosing the actress for Kate Kane (who happens to be a gay character). If the writers were so Hell-bent on casting an LGBT actress, fine, but it’s baffling that they couldn’t find a better actress than Rose. Whenever she tries to act, it either comes off as cheesy or cringey. And Kate Kane has similar problems to She-Hulk, an unnecessary hate towards the opposite sex for no reason. She wasted no time disrespecting Batman, which was probably a huge punch in the face towards his fans. Rose, please just stick to modeling because if I have to watch another attempt of you trying to act, I might just end my misery and scratch my eyes out with a fork. The fact that I’m contemplating that says a lot.
Was Pamela Anderson ever really known for being an amazing or at least decent actress? Cause if not, then it should be no surprise that Pamela was probably only cast because she’s gorgeous. Like “Red Sonja”, “Barb Wire” is just one of those movies you can immediately tell is bad. But with this movie, it’s not just by looking at it, it’s by the mere fact of Pamela Anderson portraying the character. The only thing she is good at is being pretty, that’s as far as her acting can go. So of course that’s the case with “Barb Wire”. I’m sorry if that sounds a little harsh and that I’m not even considering giving her the benefit of the doubt. But I would also like to acknowledge that she won a Golden Raspberry Award for a reason. That enough should justify my lack of faith in Anderson’s ability to act.
Anything that could’ve gone wrong with “Supergirl” went SUPER wrong. Unlike my last pick and Brigitte Nielsen, I will take the fact that this is Slater’s first movie into consideration, so her acting was expected to be not the greatest. She tried her best but there wasn’t much she could do with the material she was given. The movie just came off as either cheesy or unfinished. Probably the only good thing that came out of the movie was that Slater would go on to portray Supergirl’s mother on the CW series (who’s lead actress, Melissa Benoist, was on my best list). But other than that, nothing good came out of this movie and the only legacy it has is its status as one of the worst movies ever made. Slater was originally my #1, but what bumped her to runner-up was the irony of the next performance.
