A modern retelling of "Hamlet", the series centers on Jackson "Jax" Teller, who served as vice president (eventually president) of the criminal motorcycle club known as Sons Of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original (or SAMCRO for short, though I normally refer to them as "The Sons"). The club was originally found by his late father John "J.T." Teller, along side his wife Gemma who remarried current club president Clay (he was a special case). As he participates in various illegal activities for the good of the club, Jax struggles with who he wants to be while balancing club duties with his relationships, notably his slightly annoying love interest, Tara (I Will FIGHT YOU).
I was only supposed to watch 1 episode. But I was hooked from beginning to end, this show is FANTASTIC! And it certainly knew how to STRESS ME OUT! Almost every single episode had me at the edge of my seat, and the crazy thing about that was that even the most quiet and simple scenes has some intensity to them. How the HELL were viewers (and the actors, more on them later) able to deal with that for 7 years straight. I couldn't even handle this in a week, do you have any idea how many times I wanted to throw something at the TV?! Probably the best thing about the series was that it went harder and harder with each season finale (season 4 being my favorite). Every end of each season would top the last and raise the standard for the following season even higher (except for 7 of course). The show knew how to keep you guessing and I love (and hate) it for that.
Don't even get me started on these characters. Every single one of them (except probably Unser) needed some serious therapy. They're crazy as HELL, but you can't help but love them. You can't help but love the community within these characters and the dedication they have to one another. They may be criminals, but the only character that I felt was truly evil was Clay. You can genuinely feel how much the club and those associated with the club loved each other, that they'll do anything for each other. Each and almost everyone of these characters either have brilliant writing/development or 1 simple little fact about them that's enough to make them stand out. The show also did a little too good of the job at making the most despicable villains I've ever seen on TV. As I mentioned earlier, Clay is an evil butthole, but a fantastic villain. The other 2 villains I would like to call out are Damon Pope and June Stahl, Man I hated those 2. I will never forgive either of them for what they did to Donna and Dawn. Hell, Jax himself even became a villain, which was really sad to witness (for both us and him). Shout out to every single member of this cast. They all did an incredible job and should be very proud.
The show is also extremely depressing with saddest episode being it's penultimate "Red Rose" (I will never listen to "Make It Rain" the same ever again). Watch the episode yourself, you'll see why. And the deaths throughout the series were not easy to sit through, with the saddest death being Opie's.
I know this is a lot, the show's been off air for about 8 years, and I've pretty much gone into rambling. But I wanted to express that I finally understand why my family and so many others spoke so highly of this series. And the fact that the series is still beloved long after it's close says a lot. I will make a post about my favorite character of the series at some point, but not right away as I seriously need to decompress from this series. And don't be surprised if I sue Kurt Sutter for emotional distress. Thank you.
