So for our next binge-watching assignment, me and my aunt agreed to watch at least 3 episodes of critically acclaimed series "Breaking Bad".
"Breaking Bad" focuses on Walter White, a down on his luck high school teacher who becomes even more unlucky when he is diagnosed with lung cancer. It should come as no surprise that money was a concern for him considering he's underpaid, works part-time at a car wash, his wife Skyler was pregnant and their son has Cerebral Palsy. After going on a ride along with his DEA agent brother-in-law, Walt spots former student Jesse Pinkman trying to flee. He later blackmails him into becoming his partner in making meth under the alias "Heisenberg" to provide for his family. While that was the goal at first, he slowly grew more insane and became more corrupt as the series progressed.
I was well aware of the hype that surrounded the series. Not from my family, but from other sources, starting with "Watchmojo". My initial reaction to watching the series was that it was probably overhyped. As you can obviously tell by the title of this article, I was wrong. This series was AMAZING. And the crazy part about it was every time I felt I was getting disconnected from the series, it did something crazy to pull me back in.
There were 2 aspects to the series that stood out to me; the first being the writing. The writing for this was CRAZY good. And what surprised me the most about it was how everything came together so perfectly without getting convoluted or feeling like it's too much. There was even moments in to show where old subjects and plotlines was brought up and It just felt right. For example: The Jane Incident. Before Jesse was taken away by Jack and Todd, Walt taunted him over Jane's death by confessing his role in it. Walt did that because he was pissed at him. It wasn't just some random confession to get off his chest. Jane died in season 2 and somehow that didn't feel out of place. It felt like the perfect moment to confess. That moment probably made people hate Walt more than they most likely already did, and It was done well. Even when I was asked by my aunt about what the series could prove on, It hard to say an answer because their was little to no plot holes in the series. Even though I did say an answer, it was said with a grain of salt, because was little I would do to change the series. How The Hell Is That Even Possible?! This is also the only drama show I've seen with no recap. It's basically saying "ya'll know what happened, moving on". I feel like the show knows it's good and I respect that.
It should come as no surprise that the second is the acting. The performances in this series were INCREDIBLE! So good, that it kind off got to the point where it pisses me off. Cranston especially, who has no right to be that good.
I would also like to call out that Walt, Jesse, and Hank (for me personally) had the best developments of the show. I will probably speak about that in another post.
So, yeah, I get why the series was so loved and still is to this day, and it deserved every bit of it. To answer more questions; No I'm not watching " Better Call Saul", or "El Camino". Did I like it better than SOA. I don't wanna answer that question because I love them both and I don't want to choose.
