This is a list of notable love triangles from animated films. I will be calling out the middleman and the winner of each triangle.
#10: Megamind, Roxanne, & Hal- Megamind
Middleman- Roxanne
At the start of “Megamind”, it’s pretty obvious that Hal had a thing for Roxanne and the feelings were not reciprocated. So, it should come as no surprise that he’s Jealous with a capital J when Megamind (disguised as Bernard) comes into the picture and helps Roxanne figure out his plan while ironically Megamind (disguised as ‘Space Dad’) is also training Hal to become Titan (AKA: The next Metro Man). Megamind and Roxanne fall for each other as a result but that is derailed when Roxanne discovers Megamind’s identity during a kiss. Things get even worse when Hal (after being rejected by Roxanne) goes on a rampage against the city and Megamind after he exposes himself as Bernard and ‘Space Dad’. No worries, Megamind eventually takes his powers and Hal is sent to prison and Megamind and Roxanne reconcile.

#9: Manolo, Maria, & Joaquin- The Book Of Life
Middleman- Maria
So, 2 boys: Joaquin & Manolo, are competing for the love of Maria. Despite Joaquin having an advantage (Xibalba cheating and giving him an immortality medal) and Maria being pressured to marry Joaquin, it’s pretty obvious Maria prefers Manolo. Xibalba cheats again by having Maria get bit by a snake, leaving everyone to believe that she died (though she was actually in a coma). So Manolo has himself killed to reunite with her only to find out that she never actually died. And with him dead, Maria now must marry Joaquin. A bull battle and a resurrection later, Manolo makes it back home to save his town from Chakal, only to be knocked out, leading Joaquin to give up his medal. So with everything said and done, Manolo and Maria were finally free to get hitched.

#8: John, Pocahontas, & Kocoum- Pocahontas
Middleman- Pocahontas
Originally Pocahontas was set up to marry local warrior Kocoum. However, she was not too fond of him as he’s (as said many times in the movie) so serious. Pocahontas and John Smith’s first meeting was rather awkward itself, as John did try to shoot Pocahontas and she was obviously offended by the way he looks at anyone different from him (hopefully that doesn’t sound too political). This is quickly addressed and the 2 grow closer as a result. Unfortunately, when they share their first kiss, Kocoum witnesses this and tries to kill John. He’s completely unaware that Thomas (having followed John) was in the bushes and makes a critical mistake by shooting and killing Kocoum. Things don’t end so well for John either, as he takes the fall for Thomas and (despite Pocahontas stopping her father from killing him) is shot by Ratcliffe. So pretty much everyone loses in this triangle.

#7: Quasimodo, Esmeralda, & Phoebus- The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Middleman- Esmeralda
Considering Esmeralda was the first person he met that wasn’t afraid of his face (not to mention, she stood up for him), is it really a surprise that Quasimodo fell for her instantly? Unfortunately for him, he also has some competition in the form of Phoebus, who was immediately fascinated with Esmeralda. Despite his slight ego, Phoebus is an incredibly brave and good dude, which I think is what made Esmeralda fall for him in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, Esmeralda and Phoebus are a cute couple. But we all felt horrible for Quasi when they kissed for the first time (which was more of a sad than happy moment). Hell, even Phoebus himself felt odd about their relationship. No worries though, Quasi does eventually accept their love, and finds love again in the not-so-great sequel (I know the movie sucks, but at least he found love).

#6: Wallace, Lady Tottington, & Victor- Wallace & Gromit
Middleman- Lady Tottington
Victor was only trying to win over Lady Tottington (or Totty) for her money. However, he finds unlikely competition in the smart but innocent Wallace, whom Totty begins falling for. She even stood up for him when the were-rabbit began terrorizing the town and Victor insisted on shooting it. However, Victor gets the upper hand when he discovers that Wallace is the rabbit just after Wallace claimed to have captured the thing (he believed it to be Hutch, a rabbit victim of Wallace’s experiment gone wrong). This leads a heartbroken Totty to give Victor the okay to kill the rabbit, only for her to find out Wallace’s identity as the rabbit. Once she learns this, she tries to protect him and is somewhat effective in this. After a death-scare, Wallace is finally cured of the rabbit situation and all Victor gets is a bite in the butt from his own dog.
#5: Emily, Victor, & Victoria- Corpse Bride
Middleman- Victor
Victor was originally engaged to Victoria. However, after he embarrasses himself in front of her, her family and his family, Victor practices his vows and accidentally proposes to a dead bride named Emily. He was able to trick her into going back to the land of the living so he could get back with Victoria, only for Emily to find out and now she’s pissed. News of Victor’s accidental marriage spreads, leading Victoria’s parents to pair her with Lord Barkis Bittern. Victor finds this out along with his marriage to Emily being unofficial due to him being alive and agrees to kill himself to marry Emily. However, Emily stops him, not wanting to steal someone else’s chances at marriage as Barkis (revealed to be the one who killed her) did to her. Barkis (who at that point was married to Victoria) gets in a sword fight with Victor, only to be tricked into drinking poison, killing himself. So Emily (finally at peace) releases Victor to Victoria. This is more of a love square than a triangle.

#4: Emmet, Wyldstyle, & Batman- The Lego Movie
Middleman- Wyldstyle
So Emmet and Wyldstyle (real name: Lucy) got off to a bit of a rocky start. Wyldstyle disliked Emmet due to him being declared “The Special” instead of her. It also did not help that she was in a relationship with Batman at the time of their first meeting. To be honest, Batman didn’t really seem like a bad person or anything. It’s just that Emmet brought out a better side of Wyldstyle than he did and Wyldstyle appeared to do the same with him. He must’ve understood that as he gave Emmet his blessing to become her new boyfriend. This is probably the cleanest triangle on this list as there was little to no drama between the 3. Also, judging by “The Lego Batman Movie”, I wouldn’t be surprised if Batman had his own problems to deal with. So, that’s pretty much it with this triangle. It’s not much, but if I'm going to be honest, I really don’t care. It’s on my list. So whatever.
Winner- Kind Of Everyone (But Mainly Emmet)
#3: Shrek, Fiona, & Farquad- Shrek
Middleman- Fiona
While Shrek and Fiona’s triangle with Charming was also a contender, I decided to stick with the OG. Farquad hired Shrek to rescue Fiona as a deal with him to return his swamp. Fiona was not too thrilled with this revelation, leading her and Shrek to constant bickering. But eventually, not only do they learn to respect one another, but they realize that they’re a lot more alike than they think. And I mean A LOT alike as Fiona is revealed to be an ogre too. Unfortunately, a miscommunication issue causes conflict between the 2 and pushes Fiona towards Farquad. Donkey clears this up and helps Shrek stop the wedding, which becomes even more interesting when Fiona exposes herself. Farquad doesn’t take this very well and threatens to send her back to the tower, only to be eaten by Donkey’s future wife, Dragon. So Shrek and Fiona express their love and they get hitched. But while this is somewhat the end for Farquad, it’s far from the end for Shrek and Fiona.

#2: Kristoff, Anna, & Hans- Frozen
Middleman- Anna
Behold, the Disney love triangle that contains one of the biggest plot twists in animation history. Anna hit things off a little too quickly with Hans as the 2 got engaged the day they met. Elsa obviously agreed as she refused to give her blessing for the wedding, leading to a fight, Elsa exposing her powers, and then running away. In her journey to find her sister, Anna meets mountain man Kristoff and recruits him to take her up the north mountain. In typical Disney fashion, Anna and Kristoff fall for each other. You’d think that Anna would call off her engagement to Hans. But it turned out that Hans never liked her in the first place and faked everything to rule over Arendelle. That was a major punch in the face for both Anna and us. No worries, she does give him his just desserts with a good punch in the face. She also gave Kristoff some dessert too in the form of a new slay and a kiss.

Protus, Marian, & Sinbad- Sinbad: Legend Of The Seven Seas-This one is just "meh"

#1: Beast, Belle, & Gaston- Beauty & The Beast
Middleman- Belle
Gaston was obviously hell-bent on getting Belle to marry him. And considering all the other girls in their town are desperate and stupid, he thought it would be easy for him. However, Belle knows better. Not only is she not romantically interested in Gaston, but she knows he’s a jerk. The beast was also a jerk considering he held her father captive and she had to give up her freedom to save him. However, the beast earns Belle’s respect after he saves her life, and that respect turns into love to the point where the beast releases Belle. Respect is another thing Gaston lacks as he threatens to send Belle’s dad to the nut house unless she marries him. After Belle reveals the beast’s existence, Gaston turns the village against him and leads an angry mob to kill him. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was out of jealousy too as he wasted no time taunting the beast about Belle during their battle. The beast makes a nice guy mistake by sparing Gaston, who literally stabs him in the back, killing him. This immediately comes back to bite Gaston as he falls to his death. Belle’s love confession is enough to revive the beast and break the curse. And with that, the 2 get hitched.
