#10: Halle
Berry as Ororo Munroe/Storm- X Men Series
Storm is not only one of the most iconic Marvel superheroines, but she is also one of the most powerful. I mean the girl can control the weather, meaning it’s probably not a good idea to piss her off. Portraying a powerful character can be a little bit hard to do as sometimes you can come off as bland (for example: Brie Larson as Captain Marvel). But that is not the case with Halle Berry as Storm. With Berry, it feels like she has a natural elegance to her performance. I think it is that part of Storm’s personality that keeps her from being bland like Captain Marvel, and Halle Berry portrayed that beautifully. Now is she perfect, no (hence the reason why she is at the bottom of the list). But she still did a good job and was definitely better than Alexandra Shipp in my opinion.
#9: Chloe
Grace Moretz as Mindy McCready/ Hit-Girl- Kick A##
The irony is that the most foul-mouthed performance on this list happens to be a child. I’m not a big fan of kids cursing, but I won’t let it take away from Grace-Moretz’ performance. You’ve gotta admit that the girl worked it in that movie. Like Berry, the feistiness of McCready came naturally to Moretz, and it is fun for fans to watch. She was probably one of the best parts of the film series and most likely a bigger stand out than the main protagonist (who ironically would go on to portray Quicksilver in ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’). And normally child actors aren’t the greatest, but that is not the case with Moretz. She needs to wash her mouth, but it's still a great job on her part.
#8: Melissa
Benoist as Kara Danvers/Supergirl- Supergirl
I’m gonna be honest, I hate ‘Supergirl’. She’s not as annoying as Captain Marvel, but she’s still a problem. But that doesn't mean I don’t understand why she is liked, and Melissa Benoist is a big part of that. As I said with Storm, powerful characters can risk coming off as bland. But Supergirl is somewhat a relatable character as she’s an alien living in a whole different world from hers. Not to mention she had to grieve the loss of her family. Benoist did a really good job at portraying every bit of the growing pains Kara experienced and the natural heroism that she had, which is not something you’d expect from a former ‘Glee’ star (same goes for her co-star Grant Gustin, AKA: The Flash). That doesn’t save her from being annoying, but it does get her on my list.
#7:
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones- Jessica Jones
Jessica Jones is a BOSS, to the point where she could possibly give Black Widow (who may or may not be on this list) a run for her money. So it’s gonna take a feisty actress to portray her. Krysten Ritter was just that. But in a way, Jones is also a tortured soul. The girl also suffers from PTSD (probably from the accident) and is mentally tormented by Kilgrave. It’s kind of hard to believe that such a strong-willed character is also suffering with her own demons. So props to Ritter for being able to balance that with the character. And she’s probably the reason why a not a relatively popular character became somewhat of a standout. Of course, then again, Marvel was really good at doing that with GOTG as an example. Speaking of which……..
#6: Zoe
Saldana as Gamora- Guardians of The Galaxy/MCU
No one even gave a crap about the Guardians before the MCU adapted it and it turned out AWESOME! It really had to take great writing and a stellar cast to make people care about these characters. What I like the most about Gamora is that we slowly unravel her as a person and her somewhat tragic circumstances throughout the MCU. I don’t really care for Zoe Saldana, but she is a good actress. And like Ritter, she does a great job at balancing the different sides of Gamora. She is a BOSS too, but she’s also someone who cares very deeply for her loved ones (especially Peter and Nebula). And we were all very sad to see her go in ‘Infinity War’. Obviously this wasn’t permanent, but it was still sad.
#5:
Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch- MCU
Wanda Maximoff deserved better. I found her, as well as Elizabeth Olsen, kinda bland at first. But then as time passed she grew on me (mainly out of pity). With the amount of trauma she’s endured, it would be easy for Wanda to simply come off as a whiny character. And while there are times when she kinda does, can you really blame her emotional responses? And Olsen does a brilliant job capturing her pain, her loneliness, and her longing just to have a family. That along with Wanda’s rage/insane moments is probably Olsen at her best. Olsen also succeeds at making us both love and hate Wanda as it would probably be easy to make Wanda a self-righteous jerk (like Captain Marvel). While she’s definitely crazy (and 1 of 2 characters on this list who’s been a villain), you still can’t help but pity her and we owe a lot of that to Olsen.
#4: Dafne
Keen as Laura/X23- Logan
Do not piss this girl off, or she will rip your head off. Laura (AKA: X-23) is the daughter that Wolverine never knew he had (or needed), and she is the literal equivalent to him. Just as hot-head as her father. You’d think this kid would come off as a spoiled brat who yells and screams too much, but Dafne Keen pulls this character off with style and awesomeness. She dominated that movie the minute those knives came out of her hands and kicked some serious butt. And we were all crying with her when she said goodbye to her father at the end of the film (the saddest movie death of the last decade). I really hope we see more of Laura in the future. This better not be the last we see of Miss Keen. Work Girl!!!!!
#3: Famke Janssen as Jean Grey/Phoenix- X Men Series
And here we have yet another heroine who has been a villain at some point. Jean Grey is like a ticking time bomb in my opinion, especially during her evil era. She is very similar to Wanda, but I put Janssen higher than Olsen because she came first and is probably an OG example of portraying a powerful but deadly superheroine. Janssen just has a presence to her that simply demands respect when Jean’s a hero. And when she’s a villain, her presence says ‘Fear Me’. While Sophie Turner did a good job with Jean, the movies (mainly ‘Dark Phoenix’) held her back. Plus, Janssen truly perfected the character, and Turner’s just doesn’t hold up to her in my opinion.
#2: Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow- MCU
It should be against the law to have a superheroine portrayal list without Scarlett Johansson. That girl is AWESOME as Black Widow. We were all sold the minute she kicked Happy’s butt on ‘Iron Man 2’ and she had been kicking butt ever since (that is until ‘Endgame’ (sad emoji)). It just seems that Johansson was made for this character cause it’s hard to imagine anyone else kicking butt as awesome as she does. With all due respect to Emily Blunt (who was in consideration for the role), no one could’ve done this role like Johansson and I’m still angry that the character was done dirty for ‘Endgame’ (also I have not heard anything good about the stand-alone). Honestly, Johansson was a strong pick for #1, but there’s just one other actress that deserved it just a little bit more.
And like always, here are some honorable mentions.......
Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/The Canary- Arrow
Elodie Yung as Elektra- Daredevil
-She's fine, that's it -She's better than Garner
Anna Paquin as Anna Marie/Rogue- X Men
Yvonne Craig as Batgirl- Batman
-A little bland but decent - An icon in her own right
#1: Lynda Carter as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman- Wonder Woman
I hope no one thought I was gonna put Gal Gadot at the top after that piece of trash ‘1984’ (Which ironically Miss Carter made a cameo in). Don’t get me wrong, she’s fine as Wonder Woman. But I can’t put her at the top knowing that she (as well as probably all the actresses on this list) would not be here if it wasn’t for Lynda Carter. She should be the standard when it comes to portraying a superheroine onscreen, big or small. She should be what all these actresses aspire to be when it comes to portraying a heroine. Carter embodied who Wonder Woman is and always will be to anyone (especially girls) who looked up to her. Lynda Carter is the OG and more than deserving of the #1 spot.
Like always, there is a link to the google slides down below. Thanks for reading.
