#10: Spencer James- All American
Spencer is the star player of his school’s football team who is later transferred to another school. He also helps his community and takes care of his family as his father has a nasty illness, which kills him later in the series. This is a lot of responsibility and pressure for just one kid, and it does take its toll on the kid. One thing that stands out about this character is that he is the only character on this list that’s loosely based on a real person. That’s probably what makes him feel so real, and probably the most real of all the characters on this list. So why is he #10, I understand the show can get political and we all know how I feel about that. That and the rest of the characters on this list pretty much outshine him. But that’s just me.
#9: Archie Andrews- Riverdale
You know how TV shows have the typical ‘nice’ guy or girl, that’s Archie in a nutshell. What I got from Archie mainly in earlier seasons when the show was actually good and not the piece of trash it is now was that he is the type of person who has no problem following his heart. He literally quit the football team (for which he was the captain) because he had more of a connection to music. Not that I saw him as a person with the whole world against him, but either way I admire that about the character. As someone who does not watch ‘Riverdale’, I’m probably not the best person to judge, but that is what I got from what I have seen. I do not know if that's who he is now, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he changed for the worse like the show did.
#8: Jefferson Pierce- Black Lightning
Again I hate politics and ‘Black Lightning’ has politics written all over it. Despite this, they managed to create a likable protagonist, which is impossible for political series (in my opinion anyway). Jefferson seems like a genuinely good dude, especially when it comes to his daughters. Considering the severe politics in the series, this is what mainly put him on the list. I mean the only reason he went back into crime fighting is because his kids were in trouble. This guy probably would’ve been #9 if ‘Riverdale’ wasn’t the way it was. That and Cress Williams does a really good job with this character.
#7: Klaus Mikaelson- The Originals
Klaus probably has the most baggage of all the characters on this list (aside from another certain ‘Vampire Diaries’ character that may or may not be on this list). After all, we are talking about a hybrid of a vampire and a werewolf, which sounds incredibly painful. While he definitely was not a good dude at first, It was still apparent that he cherishes his family which appears to remain intact throughout his lifetime. And that is definitely the case when it comes to his daughter. And even during his evil run, It was really hard not to like Klaus (which is normally the case with bad boy type characters).
#6: Clark Kent- Smallville
I think it’s safe to say that this version of Superman is more memorable than the ‘Arrowverse’ one. With all due respect to Tyler Hoechlin (who will always be Derek Hale to me), I think that Welling’s portrayal might be a bit more relatable. Teenage years is basically trying to find your place in the world. As if that wasn’t hard enough, try adding superpowers, and the fact that you’re from another planet. Finding this out was probably a lot for Clark (it definitely would be for me). We are right there with him as he grows from a kid who just wants to be like everyone else and live a normal life to the iconic hero that he is today. Never thought I would see a day where I could relate to Superman, pretty awesome.
#5: Barry Allen- The Flash
I absolutely ADORE Barry. One of my favorite characters in the ‘Arrowverse’ and surprisingly well written. It’s hard not to root for Barry considering what he’s been through. We are talking about a man who lost his mother, whose father was wrongfully sent to prison, and was struck by lightning landing him in a coma for 9 months (of course if that didn’t happen he wouldn’t have gotten his powers). And when he finally gets his father out of prison, he’s killed right in front of him. Oh, and he lost his daughter. And I will also add that he constantly puts so much burden on himself in an effort to keep his loved ones safe. Seriously, it’s a miracle that he didn’t turn into Savitar. That’s probably what makes Barry such a great character. No matter what he goes through, he still kept his humanity and sometimes his trauma makes him stronger. I’m so proud of him.
#4: Lucas Scott- One Tree Hill
Oh Chad Michael Murray, never stop being gorgeous. The series mainly focuses on Lucas' relationship with his half-brother Nathan, who is also his rival in basketball. And like a lot of teen shows, this does involve a love triangle. We watch as he struggles to achieve his goals while balancing both his romantic and familial relationships (mainly his father, who was a total jerk). I think all of this is what makes the character compelling to viewers. That and he’s easy on the eyes as I mentioned earlier (seriously never stop being gorgeous Mr. Murray). I wouldn’t say he was super special, but still a decent character over all.
#3: Oliver Queen- Arrow
Oliver Queen is basically the reason why #5 exists (in a way). After getting stranded on an island for 5 years, Queen came home on a mission to save his city from the sins of his father. Not that any kid should pay for their parent’s misdoings, but shout out to him for not willing to let the city pay for his father’s misdoings. He could’ve simply just left it alone, but he didn’t. That’s definitely a required hero trope in my opinion. And readjusting to life after being on an island for 5 years was probably not easy, but he did it. I did hear that he died in the last season, which was probably very hard for viewers to witness. But after fighting crime for 8 seasons straight (probably longer), he probably needed some peace.
#2: Dean Winchester- Supernatural
Remember what I said about Klaus having the most baggage, I take it back. Dean has the most baggage. And the fact that I don’t even watch ‘Supernatural’ and even I knew that says a lot. Having to raise your younger brother after your mom’s death is one thing. It’s another thing to add hunting monsters & demons. And considering the dude has gone through deteriorating memory and literally coming back from Hell, I’m surprised he made it to the last episode. But probably his willingness to risk anything and everything to protect his annoying little brother is what makes him a fan favorite (that and he’s hot). And you can’t help but root for Dean, especially considering everything that he has been through. He dies permanently in the last episode, and it’s good to see a tragic character finally at peace.
And like always, here are some honorable mentions.............
Chris-Everybody Hates Chris
Cordell Walker-Walker
-I wouldn't say everybody hates him -New, but memorable
Kal El- Superman & Lois
-I never said he wasn't a decent character
#1: Damon Salvatore- The Vampire Diaries
Damon Salvatore, what can I say about Damon Salvatore. When we first meet him, he seems like more of a villain than a hero. But as time passes he displays a caring side of him that viewers (including my aunt), probably find infectious. He’s probably at his best when it comes to his friendships with Alaric & Bonnie. While I would not say the same with Elena, it’s still apparent how much he loves her. Also, he’s able to repair his relationship with his brother and every now and then, you will get a sweet moment between the 2. I basically see ‘Vampire Diaries’ as ‘Twilight’ for television. But what puts it over ‘Twilight’ is that it actually developed its characters, and Damon was a good example of that. He was basically the main reason to stay for the show, as his arch was probably the best of all the characters (that and he’s attractive). People probably watched for either Elena or the books but stayed for him.
